: Tranny fluid change method?

And yes I did a search and couldn't find anything. I'm changing all the fluids before a 3,000 mile trip w/a trailer. My question is I have a local shop, I trust, that wants to do the power flush on the tranny? The truck has only 20,000 miles and I want to know if this is necessary? Is just undoing the drain bolt and letting the fluid out and changing the filter good enough? I would let MIKE L. do it, but I don't have time to take it to him in the next month.
Thanks Greg

A flush is not a bad thing but it's also not necessary if the fluid is in decent shape. Draining and changing the spin on filter are all GM/Allison recommends.

Hi,

GM has a kit for this service but the manual says you don't need to do it until 50k?
I have heard of peeps doing it at around thre mileage you have.

The kit I've seen has external and interal filters, new pan gasket and Dex3 fluid.

Will post part number ASAP.

Mackin had a procedure on the DIY section but it seems to be incomplete. There is a way to do it with some simple tools, hose, and buckets. Of course 2 people make it a lot easier. Maybe someone has done this method and can chime in here with details.
