dieseldan723 05-04-2005, 06:06 PM I listened to my radio before lunch. On my way home I turned the radio on and NOTHING! Everything works except for the SOUND! All functions seem to be working properly but there is NO SOUND, even when turned ALL THE WAY UP!
Any ideas:help:
Polarbear 05-04-2005, 07:27 PM similar thing happened to mine a few months ago...Everything worked just no sound. Checked fuses and everthing...Came back a couple hrs later and it was fine...Heres a link to the post i made when it happen to me...

aka108 05-04-2005, 08:30 PM Did it in my old "01 a couple of times. Was using the radio security system. Had to reset radio with security code I had selected. Probably caused by some small electric current interruption of some sort.
Diesel Dragon 05-04-2005, 08:39 PM Mine did it too for the first time last week.
Ran to the store and no sound.
Stopped, pulled fuse for amp and put it back in and restarted and all was well after that
Been fine since
HeavyD 05-04-2005, 09:49 PM Just posted to another thread on the same issue. Look for a TSB on the radio. It calls for either a reprogram or a replacement. Mine was replaced and I have had no trouble in 12,000 miles. Greg

dieseldan723 05-05-2005, 12:35 AM Sure enough, the next time I got in my truck (about 1 hr later) it worked fine. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come!
dieselfumes57 05-05-2005, 10:41 AM dont pull the fuse. mine does this once a week. turn the truck off and let it sit for 5 min and your good to go

Our old H2 did that and they reflashed it first but didn't work.
They replaced the amp IIRC.
The headphones in the back still worked, just the speakers.
Get it fixed while under warranty.

Its probably a problem with the head unit. I saw you have an SLT/LT so of course you have the "premium" Bose speaker system. Whats probably happening is the head unit is not sending an amp turn-on signal to the Bose amp (located under the center console). Eitehr that or it is sending a constant signal to the "amp mute wire".
The H2's (and Escalade's and Denali's) have a completely different amp setup. It is referred to as the "luxury" Bose system. The amp is completely different and communicates with the BCM and head unit via Class II data. The LUX amp has a built in computer/DSP and this is why "reflashing" it can sometimes revive a dead amp. The early H2's tended to ahve this random problem of amps going dead. "premium" Bose amps can not be reflashed however because they do not have any computer or DSP. They are sometimes called "dumb" amps because they do not speak Class II. They just sit there amplifying whatever is sent to them by the head unit. (versus the LUX amps which are completely interactive) This is why its really hard to put in an aftermarket amp/speaker system and keep the stock head unit in H2's, Denali's and Escalades.
Sorry guys for the long winded post, but when I put the Escalade OEM Navigation Radio (TNR) in my truck, I sort of gained a PhD in the "wacky ways of GM Bose speaker systems"http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif And i just love explaining this stuff!

dieseldan723 05-09-2005, 12:20 AM WOW Ben, do you work for GM? ):h It started working again and hopefully it won't happen again.
DURAtotheMAX 05-09-2005, 02:38 PM WOW Ben, do you work for GM? ):h . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/lol.gif haha nope...im only 18http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I have just been soaking up all the info I find on the Bose stereo/entertainment systems because I needed lots of info when I put the touchscreen OEM Escalade navigation unit in my truck. The "TNR", as the unit is called, physically fits in and powers up perfectly and works, but the problem is, as I said, with the different amps. The TNR is meant to work with the LUX Bose amp, not the Premium Bose amp. SO... what I did is first bought an Escalade LUX amp on ebay, bought an Escalade TNR on ebay. Then I took apart my console, removed the "Premium" amp and re-wired the connectors (the wiring is different...but its really easy, you just pull the pins out and 'plug' them into different positions on the amp connectors). Then I mounted the LUX amp in place and bolted it down. Then I removed my 6-disc changer. The TNR has a small seperate GPS antenna (it does not use the OnStar GPS antenna) so I had to mount that under the big plastic dash top. Then I plugged in the TNR (it uses the exact same plugs and everything as the standard radios, so no modding was necessary!!) and it fired right up!!! AND one AWESOME thing about this mod is the AMAZING sound quality of the LUX Bose amplifier. If any of you guys think your standard Bose system is lacking a bit, you have to hear the incredible sound difference the simple amp swap makes!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif The bass is increased SOOOO much and the clarity is amazing. It sounds like what a Bose system should REALLY sound like. In my oppinion, the "premium" Bose system was pretty muddy with not much bass at all. Also, with the LUX amp you get a full DSP (digital signal processor) that can play with the sound and speaker timing to make it sound best for whereever you are sitting. Like in through the TNR you can access modes like "concert hall", "spacious", "driver" (which modifies the sound to sound best to the driver), "normal" etc... AND it gives you not just Bass and Treble adjustments but also a midrange adjustment! Its so awesome.
The navigation also is very well designed and works perfectly. It has full voice guidance and features like "take me to the nearest gas station" or "whats the nearest police station" for emergencies. The touchscreen is really easy to use for inputting destinations (you can even find places by phone number!!).
I also bought an Escalade external CD changer (technically called a "CDX" or "MDX") and mounted it temporarrily in my lower console pocket until I have time to install my Escalade console in my truck (which has the real factory location for a CDX). The CDX, XM and RSE ("rear seat entertainment"--factory DVD) integrate seamlessly with the TNR. I dont have RSE, but I hear one awesome feature is you can select (via the TNR) which speakers the DVD audio comes out of. like if you only want the front speakers to play the DVD audio, or only the rears, or both, or completely muted for headphone use!!!!
I included a picture of the install in my truck and I have all the info and stuff you guys would need to install a TNR in your truck if you wish. Yes, I know there are many aftermarket units out there, but I just love this one because it doesnt hit the shifter (the fold out aftermarket nav units hit the shifter), it IS factory OEM, it LOOKS perfectly factory, integrates seamlessly with every system (steering wheel controls, OnStar, etc), and is much less likely to get stolen because it is GM OEM and of course features the Theftlock security system. A cool thing also is that when you start the truck, it shows a splash screen of whatever manufacturer vehicle its in!!!! Like in mine, when I start my truck, it shows a big gold bowtie with a white background and then underneath it, shows a little "sound by Bose" logo.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif If you put a TNR in a GMC, it would show the GMC logo. Its just that smart!!
I was thinking of starting a thread on this because I ahve helped a few guys with the install and I would love to help more!!! Im sure there are guys on here who ahve been wondering if it can be done (the Escalade nav in a HD truck)....well it can certainly be done!! And of course you also ahve the added bonus of MUCH MUCH better sound quality too! Let me know what you guys think...like I said I have all the info and many pictures to guide you...anyone can do it!

Here are a couple pictures and I also have a photo album of the rest (at a lot higher resolution too)... Go to this link to see all of the pictures i took of the install in my truck...(sorry some are dark...i took some at night...I wish the bowtie pic came out a lot brighter...it looks so much better in person!!!

Diesel Dragon 05-09-2005, 10:56 PM Holy crap you had the top of the dash out
Where did you get the Escalade Nav unit, from E-bay or did you buy it somewhere else ?
Check out www.jpcustoms.com (http://www.jpcustoms.com) there into the stuff too
What did the whole conversion end up costing you ?
Nice job by the way.

PS. Where abouts in CT are you ?
DURAtotheMAX 05-10-2005, 12:06 AM The TNR I found on ebay for 1000$. (there are actually 2 different TNR's. One works with the LUX amp and one works with the PREMIUM amp. So If you bought the PREMIUM amp TNR, you would not have to do ANY rewiring and you would not have to buy the lux amp. However, you would still be stuck with the lesser sound quality of the PREMIUM amp) The LUX amp I also got on ebay for 45$. Im drawing a blank on what I payed for the CDX...but I think it was around 150-170$. The dash top is really easy to get off...All you have to do is take the front main bezel off (it pops right off)...this is the bezel that surrounds the HVAC, radio, etc controls. Then you unscrew like 6 screws that hold the dash top down. Then you just pop the 2 passenger side vents out with a screwdriver and reach up inside the vents. You will see two little white buttons. These release the passenger grab handle. make sure also to unscrew the screws on the side (remove the fuse panel/splice pack cover on each side and ull see the two screws.) Then pull the A-pillar covers toward you (they just pop off) but make sure not to yank on the Bose tweeter connectors. Lastly, work the whole dash top off! ONE NOTE OF CAUTION!!! be careful to carefully disconnect the ambient light sensor on the upper front of the dash...I was pulling on my dash top and it suddenly came free, yanking the poor little sensor right to pieces!! Surprisingly and luckilly it was only about 28 dollars to replace. JP Customs is a great place; I have never actually purchased anything from them but I check out their website regularly for cool new aftermarket (and OEM) goodies!! Im up in farmington ct.
I see that you have an awesome Suncoast Level III!! Whereabouts did you have your tranny work done? The Suncoast tranny's look very enticing but I dont know of any really good transmission shops up here (although I have not looked THAT hard)...it would be nice to have an (even more) bulletproof Allison...something that will last and stand up to some towing and "fun" with my future EDGE/ATTITUDE!
---Ben
Diesel Dragon 05-10-2005, 10:10 PM I actually had mine done at the dealer (it's a long story)
But if you call Suncoast and talk to Joe I'm sure he could recommend someone in the area that he sells to.
I think someone mentioned that there was a shop in Torrington that installed Suncoast.
Best bet is talking to Joe.
Come to the Drag race's on Thursday, I'd like to see the stereo install, it looks good.

DURAtotheMAX 05-11-2005, 01:02 AM Unfortunatly Im pretty busy with school stuff until the end of the school year...but over the summer i'd definetly like to make it to one of those drag races. Anything with lots of tire smoke and diesel exhaust!!! Once I start working again when school gets out and make some money, I am definetly going to give Suncoast a call and see who I can talk to in Connecticut about a Suncoast Stage/Level III or IV tranny. In the meantime, I have plenty of pics of the Escalade TNR nav if you (or anyone) wants to take a look (and id be happy to take more or if you wanted a photo of a specific function or something).
