kilo6490 06-15-2009, 10:02 PM Sick looking truck!!! Gm should do a redesign to make them look like that from factory.

underaltec 06-15-2009, 11:09 PM Truck looks great, the wheels stand out quite a bit
caddychev87 06-16-2009, 02:54 AM that is one sharp truck! NICE!!!!
callie454 06-16-2009, 08:21 AM Nice truck! Now, de-badge it!
lcochren 06-16-2009, 09:34 AM Do you have any clearance issues or rubbing?
kdogg2785 06-16-2009, 09:35 AM very nice! did you put keys in too?
Black_Smoke 06-16-2009, 10:24 AM Do you have any clearance issues or rubbing?
I had to trim the lower part of the front valance. At full turn, the outside edge of the tire lugs would rub.
Sometimes at full turn when hitting a bump, it will rub the rear inner fender liner, not much though. I tied back the E brake cable, that helped.
Black_Smoke 06-16-2009, 10:25 AM very nice! did you put keys in too?
Thanks! Yes, 1/2 ton "green" keys.
cookwa 06-16-2009, 10:30 AM That looks great. I just did the exact same thing to my 2008 lmm last weekend. I'm debating what size tires to replace my stock tires. I'll be posting pictures shortly.
DuramaxPrime 06-16-2009, 07:22 PM Thanks! Yes, 1/2 ton "green" keys.
Wow, just WOW, I have the exact same leveling setup, only with dual shocks in the front, and it doesn't look 1/2 as good as this. The wheels and tires really make the truck.
With those keys, how far do you have it cranked up? do you have a picture of the angles and bump stop?
I wonder if my truck would look as good with 285/75/16's or 33X12.5X16 on my 16X8 Helo Maxx's 4.5BS and 0 offset.

Good luck! I searched for months before I found my truck. I bought my truck out of state, nothing local for sale, unless you want a gasser.
I did find out, there are twice as many Chevys for sale, compared to GMC's

Thanks for the comments!
IMO your truck looks good, seems like you could go with a bigger tire though. 33/12.5 would look good, you might have to trim the lower front valance.
I have 4 turns on the keys.
I'll try and take a few pics when I get a chance.
Nor-Cal Nick 06-18-2009, 11:33 AM Looks great. Did I miss what was involved in trimming?

Thanks, yea I really need 285/75/16's, but this is my work truck, and I bought the tires before I leveled it out. Ive got mine cranked right up, and I still don't have the fender to wheel gap you do. Also need a PPE if I get bigger tires, cause I hate uncorrected speedo's.
I just can't believe how good your truck looks with those HOSS though, I wanted to get some, but they were special order and way to expensive where I am when I got my Helo's, but now there easy to get and actually the same price or less than my Helo's lol. Oh well.
Can't wait to see the angles and bumpstop clearance.
Black_Smoke 06-19-2009, 11:17 AM Looks great. Did I miss what was involved in trimming?
I trimmed the lower edge of the front valance. Tied back the e-brake cable, that let the inner liner move back some.
It will still rub the rear inner liner sometimes, if the suspension is compressed and at full lock on the steering.

I've found the same thing! I would prefer a GMC but there's just not many of them out there. Where in Northern Indiana are you? I'm close to Ft. Wayne.
Also the truck looks great. I've been looking for an 07 classic and telling my buddies I thought black with the black/machined hoss wheels would look awesome. Well it does! First truck I've seen with them and it looks as good as I thought!

I'm from Goshen. Not that far, I was just down around Ft.Wayne today with the truck.
4wdaaron 06-21-2009, 11:28 AM Damn that truck looks good! Hopefully I'll cya in Goshen sometime.. I'm from a little ways south of town towards Syracuse.
Black_Smoke 06-26-2009, 07:07 PM UCA bumpstops and CV angle pics....
Jroderick 06-27-2009, 04:02 PM you single handedly convinced me to get my new wheel and tire setup i just got my new 18x9 black HOSS on 325/60/18 terra grapplers put. on its amazing how much this site can influence you to spend!

How does it ride compared to stock?
Also how long did it take you to do the install?

LOL!!:D I had a set of terra grapplers on my other truck and probally should have gotten a set for this truck. They were smooth, quite, and wore really good, and priced right!
Got any pics?
Black_Smoke 06-27-2009, 08:50 PM How does it ride compared to stock?

The ride is as good if not better than stock. The Bilstein shocks make a difference.
I didn't install everything at once, if I would have, probally 4-6 hrs.
DuramaxPrime 06-27-2009, 11:41 PM Not bad on the bumpstops and angles at all. If I didn't run the big mudflaps I do, and trimmed/cranked a little more, I would totally run this wheel/tire combo.
Def something to think about.
I also see you have a PPE standard. what level are you on, and how does it work with the big tires?.

It's a Hot+2 PPE. I've been running on level 1. I like level 2, but the tranny is stock and I don't want to push it! Plus, I get better mileage on level 1.
The PPE works great with the tires. I've had the programmer the entire time I've had the tires. I removed the programmer just to see if there would be a noticble difference. WOW:eek: There is!

Do you know something I don't?
Jroderick 07-01-2009, 06:49 PM havent gotten any pics on the computer yet but ill post some as soon as i do, i had to trim the inner fender plastic and a little of the metal pinch weld on the fender but im just running cranked bars. now no rubbing and they ride and look great. i really like the look of the wider 325 it really makes the truck look meaner with the wider stance.

Black_Smoke 07-02-2009, 10:17 PM Looks good! I like those wheels. Thats a tough looking front bumper!
Jroderick 07-03-2009, 11:46 AM ya the front and rears are made by ranch hand. took at engine hoist to put them on with one guy
snavely2 07-04-2009, 04:31 PM I was wondering how hard these leveling kits are to install? Are you guys doing yourself or taking them to a garage? thanks
Black_Smoke 07-04-2009, 07:50 PM I was wondering how hard these leveling kits are to install? Are you guys doing yourself or taking them to a garage? thanks
I've done all the work on my truck.... Installing the Cognito kit isn't that difficult. You need the common hand tools and some not so common tools, ball joint seperator, large metric wrenches. If you're changing keys, I recomend a t-bar tool.
Jroderick 07-05-2009, 12:05 PM i was lucky and could just crank the bars on my truck and not make crazy ball joint angles or get close to the bumpstop, on my last one i just did keys and shock extenders. wasn't too bad but like black smoke said either borrow or buy a T bar tool its just alot safer that way. there are alot of install threads out there Nor Cal Nick had a nice one with cognito parts
MaxAll 07-06-2009, 10:53 AM When you put on the 1 inch rear blocks, what shocks did you use? I want to do the same thing and make sure it comes out right.
Black_Smoke 07-06-2009, 12:49 PM When you put on the 1 inch rear blocks, what shocks did you use? I want to do the same thing and make sure it comes out right.
Bilsteins....Nick @ Norcal Truck was a big help in selecting the right shocks.
I don't remember the part#. I know there for a 0-3 lift, and there NOT the D147 Bilsteins.
hendershot106 07-06-2009, 01:29 PM nice truck!!
TallNate 07-24-2009, 03:20 AM probably a stupid question but what are yall talking about when you refer to "Keys". You put green 1/2 ton keys in.. whats that mean?
Black_Smoke 07-24-2009, 02:23 PM probably a stupid question but what are yall talking about when you refer to "Keys". You put green 1/2 ton keys in.. whats that mean?
Keys are hexed pcs. that the torsion bar goes through. They are located at the rear of the torsion bar in the crossmember.
The name says it all, they come from a 1/2 ton truck and there indexed different than a HD key to allow for more lift.
hendershot106 07-24-2009, 02:24 PM you mean "stock" 1/2 ton gm keys??????????
Why do 1/2 ton keys give more lift than HD's? Usually 1/2 tons are lower than HD's. Or is it that the HD's suspension is higher and they use lower keys and the higher 1/2 tons different indexed keys on a taller HD suspension allows for more lift? This make sence?
cummin4x4 07-24-2009, 04:52 PM Yea the 1/2 ton keys are just a different indexing so you when you put them on an HD you can crank the T-bars more.
Jason Duramax 07-25-2009, 09:46 PM Black Smoke, looks great! Of course, I'm partial to the black cc GMC classics with a slight stance and alittle black in the wheel...I agree, not too many around, not here either.
TallNate 07-29-2009, 02:15 PM Hey Black Smoke,
off topic discussion but whats the trick to leveling the tow mirrors. That was my one pet peve about those mirrors, that they sit angled up. I tried a search but couldn't find anything about it. Great looking truck btw.
G. Mcpherson 07-31-2009, 03:21 PM Keep looking. There is quite alot of info on leveling mirrors on this site. ;) It's been awhile but i think i just did a search and found it .

Lots of good info in this thread... It's easy, nothing more than buying a few longer bolts and washers!
