I am new to this, I am looking at a 1998 gmc 6.5 turbo diesel, it is a manual transmission.. It has 206000 miles on it. it belonged to a concrete cutting company. the truck has a 12' utility bed with a lift gate. it is for sell for $2,900.
(is that a good price, It is located in southern California)
My question is, is that a decent price? How long should the truck last? (motor, clutch, ETC).

I read some of the posts on here and it looks like the average life of the motor is about 150000 to 200000,

Oil pressure is at about 50 idling, No smoke at start up or idel lI have not driven the truck yet. The company says it has full maintenance records for it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated,

my engine was originally replaced under warranty @ 56,000 kms. truck now has 230,000 kms and runs great. I guess with any engine it's the luck of the draw. Ed

Is it a 3500HD?

Sounds like a good price. Check to see if the oil lines are leaking and when the PMD and IP were replaced. Some 6.5's go forever.

i got a 99 with zero blow by . 236,000 KM and counting

the 98 motor was prone to block failure, mine failed at 242,000 miles

any truck used in a commercial construction company can be a bad idea to get, employee's generally are not nice on the equipment, it may have a detailed service record but you were not the one to drive it from day one and i would bet the farm that it was beat, especially with a manual trans.

a 6.5 is not like a cummins, you can't keep your foot in it or you WILL get too high of egt's(which the average employee would have no idea about).

see if the engine has been replaced at any point. is it 4X4? if yes for both of those I say get him down to $2500 and it is a good deal.

Edit: the manual trans, nv4500 is prety much bulletproof is stock form. Have a look at the maintenace records and report back to us.
