I've got the 6 disc CD/MP3 player and it was playing 5 discs randomly this weekend when it suddenly quit while changing discs and now all I get is the "Check CD" message. Unfortunately, I can't get it to eject any of the discs so is there a trick to resetting this thing or do I have to take it to the dealer?

Dealer. The in dash changers suxs azz. The aftermarket learned that years ago, but the big three thought they could do better.

Is the factory unit really that bad? This things not even a year old yet. Is it just going to be one problem after another?

most of the ones i see are about three years old,and hang a disc.if the dealer can't/won't warranty it .remove the radio ,disassemble and you may be able to remove the hung disc.It is only a matter of time before it happens again, plan on replacing the unit.

x2, except I've seen several that started like your's, less than 1 year old. I can't say that the amount of use is a factor. Seen several that haven't had a problem after being used daily for 3 years. On the other hand, a lady I work with had hers eat cd's in her new Caddy and it was less than 1 month old. It ate a cd again at about the 3 month range. After getting it fixed again, she hasn't used the cd player again.
Like tommystunnes said, plan on replacement, it will do it again.

I'm out of warranty, and can't get confirmed answers as to aftermarket compatability with Factory Rear Seat Entertainment because nobody seems to know <GRR>........so I am going to send my '05 head unit in to these guys for a rebuild:

I'm not old!:p: You just cannot get the quality of a cd/super cd/dvd from a download. Very few download sites (and I mean legal) have the music at a quality better than 128mb, which is less than cd quality. The quality of XM/Sirius is not much better than standard FM since they keep splitting bandwith to add more channels, so I turned it off and haven't looked back. HD radio is much better (beyond cd quality), but there are no stations broadcasting in digital in my area.:( Poor quality music really shows it's ugly face with the system in my truck (see garage) and I like to jam.:ro) My ipod just doesn't hold much music ripped with Apple Lossless format since they are such large files. Therefore, I buy cd's, rip them to my music server and burn what I want to hear. My wife has the ipod, but it's mostly loaded with music for the kids.

Well I'm old enough to have owned an 8 track tape deck so CDs and MP3s are just fine with me. This is actually my first truck to have a CD player as opposed to a cassette deck. The last 2 trucks were simple AM/FM with cassette and through 15 years I never even used either cassette deck! Anyhow, I just thought I'd mention that I never got enough time to take this thing to the dealer but I got a little frustrated with it tonight and gave it 3 solid smacks with my fist on top of the dash right over the CD player and the son of a gun started working again. I'm sure that it will eventually fail again but at least I'll have my CDs back for the ride home tonight. Cue up the 'Nickelback' please.
