: Budget Tranny build!! need input!
ridered1515 06-15-2009, 02:37 AM ok guys ive done a lot of researching and in the meantime a lotta beating on the stock ally! haha. so ive been trying to come up with ideas for atranny...so heres what ive come up with, let me know what you think, i know what a suncoast 3 and 4 cost and that they are the best...that being said...here we go
ebay 4 disc converter by transconverters...700$
tts tranny kit for the 5 spd-578$
all new either alto or stock clutches-300-400$ or so...
16-1700$ with everything... what do you guys think?? my plans include 500RWHP or a lil more...probly wana take the stock turbo to its limits or close...and i think theres a lot of you guys on here in my position who dnt wana pay 3K for a tranny, but wana play...i know you get what you pay for so this is a gamble...but id like to know what you guys think!
thx, brandon.
bluetuna08 06-15-2009, 06:30 AM are you going to have a reputable shop build it for you?
Mitco39 06-15-2009, 06:41 AM Also been thinking the same thing brandon... the general consensus on this site is Suncoast or go home... I havent really seen a thread where anyone has explored this Budget build without it gettng flamed.
I am curious as well... and would love if someone who has done a similar build (either sucsessful or not) chime in.

i wouldnt go with some cheap converter. if its that cheap its probably no good, or at least thats what my mindset is. i just got my altos, bout to put em in with a deeper pan and amsoil torque drive. i would recommend a deep pan and amsoil for sure. look at another member here, Dirtbikindad. he'll hook you up with the pan and fluid
bluetuna08 06-15-2009, 08:26 AM allison dan has a full kit with modified pistons and alto clutches with transgo for like $1250
ridered1515 06-15-2009, 12:43 PM th sounds like a pretty good set up for 1250...id just need to find a deal on a converter somewhere...
i see that you have the tts kit bluetuna? hows it working for you so far? how much power you runnin to it? and what converter did you go with? thx!
thefermanator 06-15-2009, 01:00 PM I believe MIKE L now has his own stage 3 kit he is selling as well. If your doing the build yourself go with a vendor that knows the tranny and can help you out. MIKE L helped me out a bunch in telling me which parts to buy for what
I was going to be doing.
bluetuna08 06-15-2009, 03:11 PM the tts kit is not in my truck yet. I am STILL waiting for parts to come in :-( there are a bunch of people running some good power numbers through the TTS kit.
Steve cole at TTS is very helpful and knowledgeable about the allison. TTS is a site vendor and if you give them a call they would answer all your questions.
there are other options besides suncoast as long as you understand what you are doing mechanically.

I gambled and won!:D
Very happy with my combo. Almost 30,000 miles of pulling work equipment, drag racing and playing and no issues. Comming up on 1 year as of date I installed everything so it's been used and shifts like it did the first day I put it in. There are different routes to take so make sure what you choose fits your needs.
bluetuna08 06-15-2009, 08:19 PM look at his sig
mackthehack 06-15-2009, 10:02 PM is it possible to do a similiar build, and be able to hold 600rwhp?

Converter and TTS Kit is all your running? Sounds like a good reliable build for the money.
bluetuna08 06-16-2009, 07:56 AM for the money the TTS kit and converter is a sweet deal. just dont go expecting to hold 1000hp with it.
although josh h. and Idaho Rob runs twins with it
Randy_the_Hack 06-16-2009, 11:18 PM Guys, please keep it civil... I've deleted a few posts to get things back on subject...

epb091786 06-19-2009, 05:48 AM ebay 4 disc converter by transconverters...700$
Thats awsome! I didn't know a 4 disc was possible...
The words budget and allison don't go hand in hand... If your going to save 300-400 dollars your also going to cut its life in half. If you spend 3000 dollars and it lasts 100,000 miles or 2600 dollars and it lasts 50,000 miles were did you save any money at all? Just stick it out a little longer save up the money and get yourself that nice precision industries converter and the stage IV kit and have a reputable builder build it for you! Gonna save you money in the long run!!!
