: EGR Delete, Who's All Done It?
bml2200 06-15-2009, 12:01 AM While I was pulling my injectors today the EGR was in my way so I took it off. From what I can tell, all I need to do is weld up the two openings in the intake manifold, cut a plate and bolt it to the pipe near the firewall, and get some heater hose, is this right? I've searched already and saw that there were some concerns on whether or not the intake needs support or not, it looks like it will be fine but I dunno. Input would be appreciated, photos would be even better. Thanks.
emiller3 06-15-2009, 06:46 PM 5/8 heater hose will work, change the pass. up pipe{lb7 non emission} ,and block off the two holes and every thing should be fine.
bml2200 06-15-2009, 09:43 PM What if I can't change the the up pipe?
RodZZilla 06-15-2009, 09:45 PM You could just put a blocker plate on it.
emiller3 06-15-2009, 09:51 PM Be Careful because the flex can break.
bml2200 06-15-2009, 09:56 PM I was thinking I would cut a new one out of 1/4" or 3/8" steel from the old blocker plate.
dansdieselp 06-15-2009, 10:57 PM I traced the back side of the egr cooler on a pieced of 1/4" steel. Drilled and tapped the four holes and put it in. Blocks off the exhaust and supports the up pipe. Then just made a blocker plate for the other end out of 1/4" steel. 5/8" heater hose to bridge the gap.
bml2200 06-16-2009, 01:24 AM Thanks guys for the replies, keep them coming.
jah22787 06-17-2009, 01:02 PM How much is the LB7 up pipe and where can I get one? How much of a pain in the ace is it to change them out? Been thinking about doing this for a while BML220 let me know how yours works out. Thanks
bml2200 06-17-2009, 04:39 PM Hopefully I'll have it finished this weekend. Gotta get the intake welded tomorrow.
About the LB7 up pipe, I don't need it if I just block my LBZ up pipe egr port right?
dansdieselp 06-17-2009, 04:51 PM As long as the top of the up pipe is supported you don't need the lb7 up pipe.
mackthehack 06-17-2009, 08:12 PM bml2200, I was thinking of doing the same thing. but I need to leave the egr in due to being in kolifornia. have already done the blocker plate. was going to use sheet metal and make a plate that will go between the intake and egr motor, do the bypass with the coolant lines. so, it will look like the egr has not been messed with when I have to have a visual done on my truck for smog which is complete bull sh!t.
DURAtotheMAX 06-17-2009, 08:13 PM Also keep in mind you MUST keep the EGR motor housing itself in place, it is what holds the intake manifold from blowing out.

Can you find a picture and circle what you are talking about Ben.
dansdieselp 06-18-2009, 12:47 AM He is talking about the egr manifold that the intake manifold sits on top of. That bolts to the block and supports the intake manifold. That needs to stay in so the intake manifold has support.
bml2200 06-18-2009, 02:24 AM So can I cut off what I need from the EGR and leave off everything else then?
dansdieselp 06-18-2009, 10:48 AM Basically you can just undo the front two bolts and the back four and remove the cooler and then fab up some blocker plates to go in there. Then run a 5/8" heater hose from firewall to nipple on the front top of the motor.

Or you can fab up a bracket to ensure the manifold stays in place and throw the entire EGR assembly in the garbage :D

Yeah I thought about that to, but it looked like a lot of work. Much easier to use the egr manifold as a base and block the egr port.
