I have a 2500hd with aftermarket wheels. They are ultras I think and I have cracked two of them towing my gooseneck. So I was woundering if anybody knows of a heavy duty wheel that looks good in a 16 inch and 7.5 or 8 inches wide.

First, how much are you towing and second how much weight are the ultras rated for?

man the stockers are just about as tough as you can get... but if you must have aftermarket wheels look into XD's or MOTTO METAL's never heard any trouble out of them. i had some pretty hevy loads on my motto's and they worked great.

I dont know my touge weight loaded but it is 2k unloaded they are rated 3030 each I think. I do have 305/70/16 I wonder if that might be part of it.

I can't find the weight rating on the XDs but I know the motos are about 3000# each which are right about what your ultras are rated at. I don't know maybe the ultras are just junk

I think the ultras are junk they just gave me 3 new ones and the other was replaced about 2 months ago. They said well just take three to replace the other two that havent cracked yet. so ether they had a bad batch or they are just crap. They are rated at 3050 and motos are 3200

How did you notice the crack? did it stop holding air? This has me concerned about mine.

Yes the two that have cracked did so on the back side where the tape weights go and they leak pretty fast. I had to take the wheel off to find this out the first time never thought it would be the wheel but I could hear air leaking and never found a hole in the tire. So when the second one went flat I just guessed that it was the wheel and it was.

I think Centerline's are rated pretty heavy.

One word- Alcoa

Though I have a set of Alcoa wheels on my truck they are not anywhere near my favorite from an appearance standpoint. However, they are top notch from a quality point of view and strong as an ox!

I had a set of Moto Metals- low quality in my opinion.

Standard offering 8 lug rims from most manufacturers are going to range between 3000 to maybe 3300 on the high end. You can find higher ratings, but they are not usually "off the shelf" type items. Much debate has been had about the OEM polished aluminum rims (PPO) is RPO code if IIRC. They are not rated any higher than that range either, based on my research. It is hard to get anyone to give a definitive rating on them, but they are not more than 3300 from what I've heard.

I have Ultra Peacemakers that came on my rig as a minor conversion pkg from dealer when I bought it new. They also are rated at 3050. Assuming you have stock tires,or possibly 265's with the wider Ultra rims, your tires are rated for about 3450 each if E load range on 265's.

How much weight are you putting on that rear axle with your GN trailer loaded??? I've had no issues with my Ultras, and the "rated" capacity has a safety factor (probably at least 1.5-2 would be my guess) engineered into it. So if it is an overloading issue, you would have to be drastically exceeding the trucks rear axle rating. If they were not overloaded, and based on the way Ultra hanlded it, my guess is they had a defect in a certain batch and you fell in the serial numbers of that production run. Scary that they did not issue some sort of notification or recall if that is the case??

Keep in mind, that even if you get much higher rated wheels from somewhere, you must load match tires and other suspension components to it. The tires/wheels are the weak link in the OEM setup. The axle and springs have a higher rating, but it is limited by the wheels/tires.
