: Sometimes my LMM barks at me...

Every now and then when I turn the steering wheel, I get a "barking" sound from the steering pump (maybe???). I know that several other LMM owners have this problem, but I was wondering if anyone has a solution. Also, this would occur before and after the cognito kit.

Same thing with mine but its an LBZ. Seems to happen mostly when turning to the left. Gonna take it to the dealer soon.

My LMM is in the shop right now for a power steering noise. I made a post about a slight rubbing type noise at times when I turned my steering wheel, mine does it mostly when you turn to the right. Dealer says they think that my problem is the power steering pump and that it should be replaced tomorrow. This seems kinda odd to me with not even 9K on the truck but I guess anything is possible.

I just dropped my 09 of with the same problem. Mine makes a rubbing noise in the column at slow speed mostly backing up but sometime in forward. I'll let you IF they finds anything.... I wanted to show the tech myself but they didn't know who was working on it yet...

There was a TSB for the OBS for a similar problem, the intermediate shaft was not lubricated enough from factory and needs more grease. That could be the problem....

My 09 when I turn the steering wheel all the way it makes a sound almost like the tires are rubbing from the inside, except it doesn't make any noise from the outside that I can hear. Is that not normal as well?

Check your parking brake cable behind the drivers side front tire, it will push you fender liner into the tire. Use a zip tie to pull it back. Mine rubbed with the stock tires. I cannot believe that GM thinks that is is ok to put vehicles on the road that rub the fender liners. It's easy to fix, they should have done it right the first time.

Just got back from dealership, they said it was the steering stops, and nothing was wrong with it.

Got my truck back today from the dealership with a new power steering pump and a DEEP scratch (definitely not happy about that one). Anyhow, I'm gonna run it a couple days and make sure but it seems to me that this has fixed the problem. I'll post back after I put a few miles on it and let you all know the final outcome.

Make them fix it.

How do you grease the steering shaft? What kind of grease do they use?

Do a search for intermediate shaft tsb and you should find a wealth of info on it.:thumb:

I got mine back, they replaced a spring in the column. It's not fixed still doing it, but at least they adjusted my rear TMPS so I can run 50 pound and not trip the low tire light!

I took my LMM in for this same barking noise while turning at slow speeds and they said it was a faulty steering box and replaced it. This was with around 5k miles on the truck. I have 9k miles now and the noise hasn't occurred since the fix!!

I got the truck back from the dealer today and was told that the sound came from a rubber boot that is around the firewall and the shaft. The boot needs to be regreased or something to remove the friction to which the sound is coming from.
