: GM Injector Success Story

Well, 20,000 miles on the 04 and she started blowin' blue smoke at idle while at stop lights. Engine RPM would fluctuate approximately 100-200 RPM while doing this.

Did my research on TDP Forum and sure enough - injector failure suspected. The brothers on this site also gave good advice to remove the Edge Juice/Attitude prior to bringing the big unit in. GM diesel tech checked the stock computer codes, sure enough, Injector #3 was overfueling during idle periodically (still don't know why, but don't care). Fuel regulator and all else ok. Replaced by next day, brand new Z71 1/2 Ton to kill, I mean drive in the meantime (man, going back to gas sucks...too quiet, not enough jam, rides like my wifes car..), nothing but first class treatment. Juice is back hooked up and life is good.

The real interesting part of the story is that at the exact same time, my business partner had to take his 04 F250 Harley Davidson in for major repairs. He towed (uneducatedly) a 15,000 lb fifth wheel to Florida and back on level 2 (8,000 Miles round trip) the entire time. Here's the interesting part. When he bought the truck from the local Ford dealer, they actually ordered and installed the Edge Juice/Attitude combo for him and put it on the invoice/work order for the truck. Guess what??? A week and a half goes by, he goes in to get the truck. They had to replace the cylinder head (he "stretched the bolts" and lost a gallon of antifreeze during the trip) and a warped piston head. They also had a tranny recall to fix. They had to REMOVE THE CAB from the chassis to do this (picture cab up in air, chassis and engine on ground for a week...). Anyhow, service manager calls him in his office and says not only does he have to bill him $6,500 for the work, he has to bill him for the week and a half for the rental as their computer showed the Edge product from when he bought the truck and they "couldnt' ignore it". I was there when he bought the truck and the told him "don't worry, we warranty what we install, we'll take care of you".

SO moral of this long story is thus...

1) Spend enought time at it, and the best advice on most issues can be found provided by experienced people who care, right here at TDPF.
2) Play your cards right, and the General takes good care of you.
3) Blue oval may have just lost another die hard lifer to the DuraMax clan!!!

Cheers!

He should be able to get the dealer to reverse his opinion. I am no legal scholar, but if the dealer installed the thing they are responsible for an implied warantee. Ford may stick it to the dealer, but that is a risk the dealer was willing to make.

Yeah, that is pretty much an open and shut case. If the dealer can't prove the Edge was at fault, then Ford has to pony up. If Ford proves the Edge was at fault, then the Edge manufacturer or installer has to pony up. At any rate, the dealer is up a creek unless they can make the Edge manufacturer pay.

On edit, I realize there may be a loophole to get Edge out of it. If they explicitly say in the user's manual anything about towing or exceeding capacity of tow vehicle, then the truck owner is up a creek.

Yep - Ford actually has a claim process (which the local dealer says my partner should be able to recover his costs using).

He's considering a law suit as well as not only did they order and install the Edge kit, they didn't even give him a chance to remove it prior to taking the truck in for all this work. We were in there twice during the service period and they didn't even mention maybe removing it and bringing the truck back so they could ignore it! Worse yet (see a blue oval pattern here...?) he's bought 21 new trucks in 23 years from the dealer, never once asked for a special price, but only to be looked after if he had problems...makes me sick. I almost have him in a new dura!!!!

I doubt suing them because they didn't allow you to remove something that would void the warranty would fly far in court. But if you could claim you didn't know it would void the warranty you might have a chance. Seems a valid defense when a dealer installs it. Now if you installed it yourself, then it would be a different story.

As unfortunate as it is, read the sales contract and you will find the terms disallowing recourse against the selling dealership for any aftermarket components installed. Spoken "promises" by a saleman mean nothing in court. And written can sometimes be loopholed by "perspective." Bottom line, your friends situation sucks, and dealerships have perparations for these mishaps which are normally backpedaling and denial. I had purchased a V10 from Ford new with a Paxton blower. This motor went through over a dozen rear main seals, all blamed on the excesses of forced induction.........you know where this is headed. Good luck to your bud.

Your friend will have to fight with the dealership. F Censored d will do absolutley NOTHING for your friend. The company already made their money.

Thats all they want.

When the wife started having problems with her POS, I found out about lots of other horror stories.

Good that GM looked after you.

Did I miss something here? It sounds to me like your friend is at fault, not the dealer or F*** for that matter. If I smoke my motor on the 120hp setting I know fully well who was at fault. Sure if it wasn't my predator's fault I'm gonna want to be taken care of but if it indeed was the cause because I ran 90mph up a 15% grade in the Rockies ignoring the Pyrometer melting the glass on its face!!! I think it may a bit unethical to unleash a pitbull lawyer onto a dealer. I don't mean to sound high and mighty and I hate Stealers as much as the next guy but...:horsey: And yes that's me on my High Horse. :)

Sorry I just felt like interjecting.:badidea:
