Just wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about replacing the vac pump on my 1994 6.5l Banks Turbo Diesel. I am trying to learn how to do my own repairs and appreciate any help.

banks turbo huh?

Anyways...

Here is how I did mine (yours will be same way or should be) from memory...

1. Take off belt and unbolt the AC compressor from the bracket and set aside
2. Unbolt the front part of the bracket
3. Bracket and Vac pump will come off in one unit.
4. Unbolt Vac pump from bracket and rebolt up the same way
5. Reinstall using reverse procedures

That is how it "should" be for the 94-95 trucks. You may want to see if the 3 bolts holding the vac pump on are in from the front, but they should be from the back. And I think i got the main steps in there...

If you need more detail, remove fan shroud, loosen fan bolts, remove belt, remove fan, remove vacuum pump.

Get a belt around an 1" shorter? I run 99.5, no a/c 2 3/8ths alt pulley,. And it fit snug and adjusted well.

MRBachand, your thinking of the 96+ trucks :P. The 94-95 trucks are a little different on the removal of the vac pump.

I actually did mine without removing fan shroud.

Also IF YOU ARE JUST REMOVING VAC PUMP PERMANENTLY, a 94-95 truck takes a 101" belt (94-95 w/ AC) iirc (i used 101.5" belt i think). Do a search there is a post i've made before about it.
