I recently got back from a hunting trip in Eastern Washington where not only did my Neutral/BU safety took a dump 60 miles from the nearest dealer (good limpin' right there), but I picked up a continuous squeak when the truck is coasting or in reverse. Fortunately the dealer had the switch in stock and got me taken care of, but the squeak showed up a couple of days later and is still there today. I did run through alot of deep mud and water.
I went in this week to my local dealer and had a LOF done to see if that would help, but it didn't. When I asked the Service Manager about greasing the u-joints, he said that there's no zirk fitting on them.
I called a local driveline shop here in Tacoma and got pricing. If I r&r the driveshaft they'll replace all three for $100. Sounds pretty reasonable... if it's the problem. He also said that he would not recommend using a u-joint with a zirk on it, saying that the spicer joints are tight enough not to have problems.

So here are my questions: Has anyone else dealt with this? What's the likelyhood that the u-joints are the cause? Do they make an aftermarket u-joint that has a fitting for lube and is this preferable or do I stay with the GM part and deal with this issue again?

BTW the PU is an '02 Dmax/Allison 2500 Crewcab with 68,000 miles

Thanks guys for putting on a kick ass forum.:ro)

I believe that u-joints with grease zerks are hollow. The others are solid. With the the duramax, I would just go with the spicer replacements because of the torque the engine has. U-joints are a lot cheaper than a new driveshaft.

I have replaced both U-joints on my '02. One @ 25k miles the other @ 35k miles no problems for the last 20k.

I wanted to kick this post back up to the top:grd: I'm hearing alot of different feedback for m the driveline shops in this area. Right now I'm leaning towards a greasable u-joint. Anyone?
