: Spray on Bed Liners
harrington 05-03-2005, 08:25 PM I need some help. What is everybody's opinion on the best spray in bed liner ( Line-X) (Rino Linning) and everyother vendor.
I've seen some trucks that have this stuff and it's all faded, it really looks like crap when it's faded.
Has anybody had their truck scratched or overspray from getting this process done?
Thanks:help2:
VFRRider 05-03-2005, 08:38 PM I have linex, it has taken a beating and does what its supposed to do. I've spilled tranny fluid, rear end fluid, and motor oil on it. It is stained, some parts darker than the rest, but I've never tried to clean it other than at the quarter car wash, dont know how it would look if I put some effort into cleaning it. The part over the rails which is exposed to the sun, but not junk in the bed, looks like new still, i've never had to put any type of dressing on it.
michael nelson 05-03-2005, 08:46 PM rhino lining-the best-nelson out-jmo-
wwpiga 05-03-2005, 08:48 PM line-x is the best.
to keep the original color spray a light mist of armour all
wishforit 05-03-2005, 09:05 PM I got Line X this weekend. 417.00 with taxes out the door. I like it
mrmagu 05-03-2005, 09:10 PM line-x on our last five trucks, go straight from dealer. Wouldn't have anything else
HeavyD 05-03-2005, 09:11 PM Have had the Line-X in for two years now. I will get another in my next truck, no question.
jth7186 05-03-2005, 09:13 PM I have speedliner in black over the rails. Don't worry about overspray. They can take a rag with alcohol and literally wipe away any overspray.
I can't answer the fading issue because my liner is only 3 months old. I love it, though. Would and will absolutely do it again on the next one (did NOT on the last one). Speedliner's website has discount coupons, and sometimes your dealer can get you another discount. I got mine sprayed over the rails, and the inside top lid of my tool box sprayed for $375 out the door. I'm in Tallahassee, FL and MINCO on Magnolia did it.
Romark1 05-03-2005, 09:33 PM I had a Line X in my last truck. It is very tough but kinda slick. Things slid around back there.
I saw a sample of Speedliner the other day and it looked good and a little rubbery.
Went the cheap route for now, Rubber mat.

wellman 05-03-2005, 09:57 PM Line-X in interior of R/K utility in july04 from dealer, liked appearance and performance so much had top lids, sides of front exterior box, in bed and over rails of my 90 chevy short bed (250k), and exterior and interior of R/K bed rail tool box. No fading yet and plenty of physical and chemical abuse. Staining on floor but it only gets hosed out about once a month. Recieved tons of praise so far as to appearance.
Burner 05-03-2005, 10:18 PM ........Speedliner, no fade.
playasaurus 05-03-2005, 10:32 PM I am a p/u truck fleet manager. We have Rhino on at least 30 trucks. The only problem I have had was when a new guy put hot asphalt in the bed and kept it in there for a couple hours. When he tried to shovel it out, the liner was softened and scraped out. But guess what, they stood behind thier lifetime warranty. They took out the whole thing and reapplied a new one, free of charge! Haven't tried onything else!
D/A Power 05-03-2005, 10:59 PM Also have the Rhino - third truck with it and I will never use anything else. Love the grip - boxes and crap do not slide (unless hard accel/decel). Last one did look faded a bit, but I never cleaned or applied any polish to it. I was told strictly by the dealer - absolutely NO silicone products are to be used to shine it up as silicone is the enemy to polyurethanes. IIRC I thought they told me this included Armor All.
smshiver 05-03-2005, 11:07 PM I really like my Line-X and occasionally spray it with a UV protector. I use either "Just Once" or "303 Aerospace Protectant". Year and a half and still looks like new.
VC-17 05-03-2005, 11:40 PM Rhino liner all the way, I've had it on my last 2 trucks, it does fade over time but there is a spray they supply to brighten it up again. Before they apply the Rhino liner, they rough up (sand) the area so it could adhear to the area. Rhino liner or Line-x, you can't go wrong with either one, and you won't regreat it.
Reineke 05-05-2005, 05:28 AM I think I'm the only one with Toff. I have not had it long enough, or put it through its paces, but so far so good. Another plus is my neighbor got it done at dealercost for $329!
akdiesel 05-05-2005, 06:17 AM I have Rhino and I am very pleased, but all the rest of us that have had any type of spray in liner has nothing but great remarks to say about the spray in that they have on their truck.
Maybe a very small percentage were not pleassed with their spray in, but I find it hard to believe that if they did not like it the liner would have been any different if it was a drop in or that it was not applied correctly.
echerbst 05-05-2005, 06:54 AM I sprayed mine myself with rattleguard, it's a company out of Texas. It is a two part mixture just like rhine or linex and has been holding up great. The kit only ran me 180 bucks and I have done a few more friends trucks since I did mine. If you have a big compressor and the know how to paint/sand/tape your truck it only took me about 2 hours.
noreaster 05-05-2005, 08:42 PM i have rhino liner, im not a big fan of it. it was already on truck when i bought it.
boxes slide all the time, have a few chips, & a big nasty yellow stain from some dumbass spilling rubber roof glue on it. line-x is almost double the price of rhino here, line-x is always busy & rhino is always looking for work. ill probably stay with the rhino, need tailgate sprayed & bugguard.
Denali02 05-05-2005, 09:27 PM Only located in In CA. Looks great! We'll see about the durability. Recomended by dealer. http://www.sprayontruckbedliner.com/
JRKRACE 05-05-2005, 09:43 PM I've got a Full Metal Jacket spray in. Had it done on my other truck also with great results. Looks good and don't really need anything except a power washing once in a while.
rolloffhill 05-05-2005, 10:14 PM I have Rhino bed and inside toolbox. No problem for me with sliding. I did buy something when I got my toolbox sprayed. It is made by rhino to "renew" the look of your rhino liner. It is some sort of black liquid. Haven't got around to using it yet but it is out there to keep your bed looking "fresh".
johnnydeesduramax 05-05-2005, 10:39 PM i have had line-x in mine for 4 years now and its still hangin in there. 2500 psi presure washer doesnt faise it. couisin got rhino last year and is torn up cause the stuff is peeling off. they say lifetime warranty but all they will do is respray. wont give him his money back. go with line-x you wont be disappointed.
John DiMartino 05-05-2005, 11:25 PM I have a Rhino liner, its been in a about 18 months.Id never buy another, its chipping, peeling, and it looks 10 yrs old its so faded.id try anything but a Rhino next time.
rolloffhill 05-06-2005, 12:17 AM I've had rhino since new ('02) the only place it peeled is where I scraped it off with a hitch. Trailer sunk in the ground, jack fully extended. Otherwise it has been flawless. 3700 psi here, it ain't comin' off!
Burnin Mad Max 05-06-2005, 02:24 AM Has anybody gotten a color matched spray in liner and if so how has it held up against fading? I will be latching on a Pace Edwards Roll top soon so it won't always be wethered but nobody likes fading either.
akdiesel 05-06-2005, 02:53 AM I have the Rhino color match on mine. Pewter in color. They use a UV protectant to help from fading.
They also will apply some stuff to give it the new look again.
I have had it on for approx two years now and it still looks great in my opinion. I park it in the garage so it does not sit out in the weather all of the time. I also do not have tonneau cover. I have one small (1" diameter) gray stain that is close to the tailgate.
I do not have any chips or cracks or dents. I do not go and throw items in there. I paid alot for this truck and I tend to keep it for a long time. I am not the type of person to just go and throw items in the bed of my truck just because it is a truck.
I use it to haul items, not show its abuse.
sparks426 05-06-2005, 12:38 PM I have Line-x in mine, and it is working great. If you work for a contractor or public agency, ask if the company does any discounts - I got $100 off for being a lowly city employee. My parents did a light tan color on there Rhino lining, and did the bed, lower rocker panels, and the factory plastic wheel well extenders. Not sure if I like it (basically made the white truck into a 2-tone), but it should blend in with the nasty alkali dust they drive through all the time (live 60 miles out on a gravel road in middle of Nevada). That should be a test of the Rhino. One of their neighbors did the same thing, only black - it has definately stained from the dust.
Burnin Mad Max 05-07-2005, 04:11 PM Thanx guys, my truck is pewter and I worried about the light color fading. I'm very interested after reading your posts.
akdiesel > I know what you mean, my truck bed is usually sees little more than luggage or the occasional keg of party fuel acrefully placed into the bed. My firends always nominate me for hauling their junk arround and I'm never happy about it. I don't work the bed so why should they. I bought the truck because they're tough, durable, fuel efficient and strong enough pull a sled hauler through the northern Wisconsin hills without slowing down.
LaBeym 05-07-2005, 11:13 PM 3 years on Line-X.
BlueOx03 05-07-2005, 11:28 PM I have rhino in the bed, line-x on the tail gate...I wish I had line-x on the whole thing....
akdiesel 05-08-2005, 12:10 AM blueox03,
Why the two different spays?
Idle_Chatter 05-08-2005, 10:34 AM I can't compare to the other brands because I've only had Line-X in my truck since new. I had it sprayed under-rail before picking up from the dealer in Wisconsin and had the rails done in Ohio in 2003. It's been great for me and I would definitely go Line-X again before trying another brand.
BlueOx03 05-08-2005, 10:46 AM blueox03,
Why the two different spays?
I had the whole bed done when I bought the truck. I dented the the inside of the gate and replaced it (not bad damage, I'm just picky) Rhino wanted $200 to do the gate, Line-x took $50. The gate make the rest of it look like poop...
Wolford 05-08-2005, 10:33 PM Line-X
We have slide a power rake off of a T-250 Bobcat into the beb of my truck and the sharp edges didnt peel up any of the liner......and that is just one of the things this liner has suffered through. I like it and will buy another one for my next truck.
Burnin Mad Max 05-09-2005, 02:25 AM Damn you gotta Phat Azz!!! You're 'Busa that is!!! Hardly even noticed the Line-X.
harrington 06-09-2005, 11:50 AM I have a great story for all of you. I took my truck to a Place in Portland, OR called "Extreme Coatings" 8830 NE Sandy BLVD ( Their a form of Line-X). Anyways. I have a black truck, so I initially asked and stated that I was concerned that they would not scratch the truck in the process of the spray in bed liner. They replied "We've been doing this for 12 years, no problem".
So 2 hours later, when the work was finished, they said "I'm ready to go" and no issues.
I held back and inspected my truck, and to my suprise. They Scratched the hell out of it.
1. The Tail gate had scratches down to the metal, from top to bottom, in same plain as the pedistal they placed the tail gate on, to do their work.
2. There was over spray on the edges on the front section of the bed.
3. The panel below the rear window, at the front edge of the bed, had a scratch as long and the bed, down to the metal.
They then had a guy come out and try to put wasx on the truck to cover it up, I said are your nuts, putting wax on the paint to cover a scratch down to metal is no solution. They simply wanted me to just to live with their mess up.
They're reply was " we could not of done this" ???
After stating my truck was only 4 weeks old and in mint condition, they we're then backing down.
To end the story, after a week of yelling, with these Jerks, they finally paid to have my truck re-painted in the area's they damaged. They paid over $1500.00 to have this repaired.
Real nice.
So if anyone lives in Portland Oregon, DO not take anything to this " Extreme Coatings" Phone #888-546-3915.
Has anyone else had an event like this?
Thanks
habanero 06-09-2005, 01:52 PM When I had my line-x sprayed in the morons put a couple rough areas in the paint just below where the over-the-rail stopped. I didn't notice it until a couple days later when I went to wash it. Of course they said it was like that when I took it in, but I know it wasn't. There were two spots on each side in the same place about the size of a quarter. It wasn't down to metal by any means, but the surfaces had been roughened a bit.
akdiesel 06-09-2005, 08:01 PM Like what has been mentioned many times before. The Sprayer/Prepperation is the key to getting a good job done. Both Rhino and Line-X are great products as long as they are applied correctly, and the follow up/Customer service is also highly important.
The word will get around about "Extreme Coatings" simply enough by what has been said here. But to give them the benifit of the doubt this is the first complaint I have read about them so maybe it was an isolated incedent.
harrington 06-10-2005, 02:39 PM It may be an isolated incident. But I'll ask a question, would you take your truck there for this coating after what was stated or go somewhere else?
Thanks
I had the Rino put in two weeks ago and I like it. I went under rail and had rail caps installed. They make a conditioner for it so that you can make it look like new again three years down the road. The guy showed me his four year old Rino after treating it, looked like new.
Of course I own a truck, not a BMW.
habanero 06-10-2005, 03:42 PM I agree with AKdiesel, it is all about the applier. I would never go back to the Line-X dealer that did mine, but I will never own another pickup without a Line-X liner. I think what I learned was do your homework on the installer, as well as the product.
