: 2001 Dmax Crew Cab
ramairscare 05-03-2005, 06:28 PM I am looking into buying a used 2001 Duramax crew cab truck. I was wondering if any of you could tell me what kind of fuel mileage i can expect, problems that may occur or just interesting info about the truck. It has the 5 speed Alison auto, a Swiss custom cap, the towing package, only 41000 miles and clean, I mean super clean. Thank you for any info you can provide<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
rolloffhill 05-03-2005, 06:32 PM Post the vin in the "ask the techs" then you can find out the service history. Is it a dually or 2500?
supatrucka 05-03-2005, 06:53 PM 17mpg unloaded that's it maybe 18-19 but i dout it. 10-11 mpg towing 5k at 80-85mph is what i see on mine. dave
packfan 05-03-2005, 07:46 PM Supa,
Towing 5K at 80-85 mph is insane.
Max Power 05-03-2005, 07:49 PM Why? I tow more then that at 75-80mph all the time. Lots do. I don't see what is insane about it?
supatrucka 05-03-2005, 07:52 PM Supa,
Towing 5K at 80-85 mph is insane. The snow doesn't last long around here to go slow. dave
RipVanWinkle 05-03-2005, 08:24 PM I bought my 01 used last October. It was super clean as well, and had only 15,000 miles on it.
I have kept meticulous records in the 12k miles since. Here are my ranges:
When empty around town only: 15.5-17mpg
50/50 hwy/city, empty: 16-17.5
100% hwy empty, running at 75mph: 18.5-20.3, depending on season. Better mileage in warmer weather.
Towing full-height 10,500# 5er: 11.5 on pretty flat terrain @ ~75mph.
Just out of curiosity, how much are you going to end up paying for your beast?

case680e 05-03-2005, 08:36 PM My overall average is 12.9 MPG. Most of that is towing a 14,000 pound 5er. My high was 20.95 MPG driving solo around Yellowstone (45 MPH speed limit). This included hills and frequent bison traffic stops. My worst, 7.85 MPG was the same trip going east I-70 Through Kansas. I was trying to do 75 MPH and had a 20-25 MPH head wind. City driving is usually around 15-16 and solo freeway 18-19. Pulling the RV is 10-11. Truck is 7500 pounds empty and 21,500 pounds with the loaded trailer.
ramairscare 05-03-2005, 10:52 PM You guys are awesome. It is a 2500 crew cab, with 40500 miles. They are asking $27600 but with my trade in (a 2000 S10, 4cylinder $6000 in trade in) and some haggling, i have them to $20500 as it stands right now. Still doing some research though and haggling, Is this a good deal or should i pass. Most of the time the most i will pull is a bass boat or jet skies. The rest is just plain truck work, hauling anything that will fit in the bed from lumber, to bricks, to furniture. Keep the info coming, you guys defiantly know more than i do<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
blnagel 05-03-2005, 11:22 PM Sounds like a good deal. I have an 02 and get 17-18 keeping the RPMs at 2K. That is @ 71-72 mph. If I speed up to 78 I get 15.5. Pulling my big 5er, I get 8, but I go 75 mph though. If I was to slow down I am sure it would be better. I LOVE THIS TRUCK!
Ben
Tel9000 05-03-2005, 11:38 PM My 01 CCLL gets between 16.5 and 18mpg, hand calculated. I figure that is decent with a six inch lift and 285's. The difference between the low and the high depends on whether it is windy or not.
RipVanWinkle 05-13-2005, 11:24 PM I bought my truck for 20,500 with 15,500 miles on it. I don't think the back seats were ever used, the thing was spotless. Not a scratch on it. Still smelled new.
I then hit the lottery when I took it to the dealer and pointed out the dry rot on my tires--and they gave me 4 new ones for free.
20 g's for this truck is a great deal. If it's clean and has been well cared for, it's just in the infancy of it's life.
Did you buy it?
Rip
Kirby 05-15-2005, 11:43 AM I bought my 2001 last year, Crew cab, 4x4 shortbed, K&N filter. Paid $ 22,000.00 and was the first diesel I have owned. It has been a learning experience but I am getting the hang of it. I was getting 17 to 18.5 when I first got it solo on the highway and around 15.5 around town. Since I have slowed down and improved my driving habits, I can squeeze 21.5 out of it on the highway. I just put a 5" exhaust on it, we'll see if that makes any difference.
