Dual disc clutches are relatively easy to come by (Centerforce (just announced), McCleod (released well over a year ago), and SouthBend (probably)), but Craig is the only one with a solid flywheel that I know of.

The flywheel is the critical piece IMO...

There is a local machine shop down here that has been playing with the solid flywheel design. They were playing with some test units. I will have to inquire this weekend. The flywheel design that they had was made for a OEM pressure plate.

The last conversation I had with Southbend Clutch, they indicated that the latest revision of the DMF was holding up pretty well. If they or other companies thought GM hadn't resolved the issue, I would think someone would begin adequate production of a one piece flywheel. Craig may have a great product, but he doesn't have the time to produce and sell it right now. Of course those who do sled pulls or other extreme things with their truck would benifit from a SMF, but what is the reliability factor of the latest GM DMF? I want a clutch assembly that will hold some additional torque, and not slip, even when towing at max GCWR.

I had the newest DMF put in back at 36k and am now at 52k and this one is doing the same http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/censored.gif as the previous 2 http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif!!!!! I definately put it to the test though, I have 50ft lowboy that holds 3 cars. We definately need someone to produce a decent SMF!!!!

The Dodge guys say the disks are from Haisley Machine. You might be able to get the wear parts you need from them.

MichaganaJoe: I couldn't find anything on a dual disc clutch from Centerforce. Could you have been mistaken by their Dual Friction seen at http://www.centerforce.com/whatsnew.tpl?section=press&subsection=article&sku=4400075&prevsub=archive ?

Deadeye...That clutch isn't that old in your truck, is it?
I realize you've got a ton of power going through it now, and have done a few dyno/drag runs; but, how many miles are on that unit??

mine was installed last november by IBDMAX'IN. Craig came over in January (IIRC) and pulled it out because it was slippin. It skinnied up the front side of the rear disc. Craig removed some spacers and reinstalled. It has been working good since then. Craig found no reason at all for the slippin. He agreed to mail replacement discs but has not responded to, literally, dozens of callls and several emails. I cannot do any sled pullin until I can find a source for replacement parts.

the beat goes on . . .

Mcleod make the smfs for dual disc and single disc setups but when I talked to them they said that was all they would sell so you will have to get the clutch setup somewhere else. (He also said that he sells about 15 or 20 flywheels at a time to some guy and then the guy sets them up himself hint hint)

I know this is kinda the hard way to find out, but there should be part numbers stamped on each piece of CPMac's clutch kits. Tearing into the truck to find these numbers would be kindof a pain. But if you found some numbers then you could prolly check around with manufacturers to find out who makes which parts. Just a thought.

Ryan.

Same here, no p/n's, I noticed that when I installed mine last year. I asked Craig about replacement disc's and PP and he said they are custom parts and that he would supply them when needed.

If anyone figures out what/where to get replacement discs and PP's (for single & double disc setups) to match Craig's SMF, please post and let the rest of us know.

When my clutch goes, if I can't get replacement parts, I'll have no choice but to go back to the stock DMF and SBC clutch/PP and chaulk it up to a $1700 lesson-learned I guess. :-(

All the parts in my kits are either modified or completely built just for the Duramax with the exception of the discs and floater in the dual puller. Those discs and floaters can vary for different applications so it's really not that simple. I have to apologize to my previous customers especially. I do have parts in stock and have not been selling any setups lately because of a coulple of issues that I wanted to make sure were completely diagnosed before letting any more out. I have had other issues in my life that have slowed the process of clutch R&D and for that I apologize to my previous and future customers. I believe I have a good product and hope to be able to get back to good service very soon. I believe my phone message system should be operating fine and I should be able to return all missed calls the same day but I will not be able to return any old messages since I found I lost over 200 old messages total.

Glad to see you around the place again, CPMac...
Here's hoping the issues around the homefront are better soon..:beerchug:

Craig,

Glad to hear you're back! And I hope things get better for you on the homefront.

You have a great product, I totally agree! I have your single disc setup, running a VA150 box, and it holds the extra power without slipping, and no more hard pedal.

I look forward to talking with you in the future when I need a replacement disc etc...

Thanks,
Tim
