I will be installing an injection pump on my 6.2 shortly. I have read the other posts and understand the process of setting the timing of the pump. My question is whether or not I will need to worry about the position of the number one piston when setting the timing? Should it be Top Dead Center or is that not a concern in this case? Thanks for helping out this noobie! :)

You can't install the injection pump wrong since the shaft flange had a pin in it that fits into the driven gear. I always put # 1 cyl at TDC on the compression stroke for easier alignment when I put the pump in the engine. It is also an old practice from working on or overhauling gasoline engines.

Just put the pin in the slotted groove, and align the pump just to the driver's side of the timing mark on the timing cover and you'll be happy.
