Looks very good. TBN would be nice for reference as well.

Total Base Number; an indication of how much anti-corrosive is left in the additive package. It's a reasonable indication of how much "life" is left in an engine oil.

Your Fe wear was low; around 1.2ppm/1k miles. Your Pb was higher than what is often seen, but not enough to warrant any panic; it's not uncommon to have an "event" where a bit of a metal breaks away occasionally and skews a report slightly higher. Cu was very reasonable, as was AL.

Overall, good report. If you're comfortable with the current maintenance plan, I'd say stick with it. You might consider sampling again in 7.5k miles and see if the Pb comes down a bit. If so, I'd not worry at all. In fact, if it does (which would indicate a single event and not a sustained shedding of metal), then you might consider a TBN added to the report, and possibly 10k mile OCIs. Won't know for sure until those issues are addressed.

Thanks guys. Guess I need to convince my wife to let me send in another sample. this is with Wix and was kinda pricy I thought. $18 for this little bit of info. Who do most of ya'll use?

That's about right. I use Oil Analyzers (amsoil). Blackstone is common too. They all run about the same. Once you start OA on a vehicle with one company, best to stick with it as there can be variations between labs. Not enough to be a big deal, but now you have your baseline started.

alright...thanks for the info...

Is this engine running on Bio-diesel as well?

oh yes...forgot to mention that....i don't run on homebrew bio all the time but as much as possible

Could the bio be the source of higher lead? I have used bio on a regular basis and noticed my lead is higher than norm for the duramax.

Maybe Dave will have more info as he knows his OA's, but bio was supposed to be a little harder on the oil. Talk of more fuel dilution and TBN's dropping sooner. Aside from the unknown TBN, you show no sign of fuel, so that's encouraging on the bio front.

The reason why I asked is chevron had done a report that claimed that lead wear would increase with bio.

I was also searching on the oildrop and found one mention of a powerstroke noticing his lead went up since he started using bio.

The numbers are not high per say...mine were about 10-15ppm for about 8k miles. However when you compare to others...lead is typically very low for the duramax.

Bio fuels indeed have an affect on the Pb. It's an interaction of the chemistry. Knowing that, your report is pretty much in line for that application. I would not stretch out the OCI if you're running high concentrations of bio-fuels. Some companies even make products (lubes and fuel treatments) specifically for use with bio fuels; you might look into those.
