: Hypertech III vs all the others
jjbissen 05-03-2005, 07:34 AM I had a 2003 Crew Cab with the Duramax and the Allison. It drove me nuts with all the problems. So I pressed our dealer into getting me a new one at a great price. Same truck with a few extras $6,500.00. The only mod the 2003 had was a Hypertech III set on the second setting (77hp). It was very easy to use and you could feel it in the seat of your pants. I called Hypertech when I knew I was getting a new truck (programmer reads the vin number and will only work with that truck) and asked about an upgrade and they quoted me about $200.00. So here's my question: Is this a good way to go? I haven't seen any discussions on this board regarding this programmer. Is there something wrong with it? Should I get something else and toss the hypertech out? Please let me know.
I've trully enjoyed reading this board and will continue. I'm still having a little trouble with your abreviations (we call it alphabet soup). Everybody does it but not everybody understands it. As for me I'm just going to pretend I know what it all means. Can't go around looking stupid.
Thanks for any input.

YoKev 05-03-2005, 09:09 AM IMO, the problem is Hypertech themselves. I bought their programmer for an '05 and it wouldn't even load up. Countless calls later, $80 in shipping, and it's fine.Dealing with those ya-hoos was worse than a root canal. I found them rude, lacking in knowledge, and came away scratching my head, wondering how a company could stay in business with a customer service department such as theirs. In the meanwhile, I bought an Edge Juice. If you want a PP3 already setup for an '05, I'll sell you mine for $225
trek5200 05-03-2005, 09:45 AM I've had a Hypertech in a gasser, and currently have a Hypertech III on my 05 lly. I'm happy to say I have not one problem. It's user friendly... :ro)
ssduramax 05-03-2005, 12:11 PM had a Hypertech III on my '03 HD gasser, it fried my computer, had to send it and the tuner to Hypertech to have them reload everthing.
Kennedy 05-03-2005, 12:43 PM Gotta watch what I say as there are forum members just waiting for me to bash Hypertech.
Anyhow, first unit would not support my 2005 LLY even though it was said to. Second unit does program my truck. Level 1 performed with less than stock on the dyno. 4.1HP loss peak to peak and 13.8HP loss at 3,000RPM Level 2 gained 27.7HP peak to peak and 15.9 at 3,000 Level 3 gained 71 HP peak to peak and 50 HP at 3,000.
I find the Hypertech to be slow with a small screen that is difficult to read in low light situations. The scrolling in from the RH side is annoying and slow. It's neat and all,but I want the message to appear and get it over with.

Sometimes motor loses power over time... And also if thats the case why would the hyperteck make it lose power? AND 71 HP TRUE DYNO GAIN in level 3 sounds pretty damn good for 200 bucks!
sammy 05-03-2005, 09:15 PM If you are looking for a small - moderate boost for $200, I would have your Hypertech upgraded. If you are willing to spend $400, I would go with the Predator. I had issues with both that had to be sent back to the factory. Hypertech shipped back within 3-4 days while Diablo took their sweet time and took close to two weeks to ship back once they received the unit. The predator locked my PCM requiring a reflash with the TechII. I understand that these problems are rare, but can happen to any of the programmers. Keep that in mind if you decide to reprogram your truck while sitting out in the middle of nowhere. Just got my pred back on Friday, and I am happy once again.
NCMIC 05-03-2005, 10:01 PM surfrippa, i'm sure that kennedy didn't measure his hp readings from the written claims from GM. he has access to a dyno and checks everything. he will check things to make sure they do what they state they will do. he calls it his lie detector. i'm sure he knows just how his truck performs and knows where it is bench marked. how do you think he was able to come up with stating the actual power gains and losses.
i, myself, thank him for all he ahs done for all of us, in verifying things and through the sales of products that really work. it makes it easier for me to trust things he says and sells because if he wouldn't see a benefit in his own truck, he wouldn't want to have us put it in ours.
thanks again john for all you do for us.

Wolford 05-04-2005, 11:37 PM Hypertech fried the motor in my dodge and they dont run near as strong as the Juice.
NCMIC 05-05-2005, 07:12 AM surfrippa, i figured you didn't know who he was. that's why i gave you a break down about him. if you want to know more about him, go to his website, www.kennedydiesel.com . there is some good tech tips on there for a few things that bother some of us. he also has great prices on fuel filters and other helpful items.
