I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with a hand help CB. I would like to have one and I was wondering if they were close to being as good as a mountable on (ie" Cobra 29LTD). I don't really have a good place to mount a mountable one without cutting or installing auxiallary speakers. Just kind of curious here, also, what are some good one to go with. WAL*MART has one for $40, but I could shell out a little more if it is worth it....

Not even remotely close!! The mountable SHOULD have a good antenna purchased for and installed with it.

has anyone thought of installing a Cobra in the little space below the cigarette lighters? Looks perfect for a CB......

I have a midland that fits perfectly in the spot runninhorn mentioned. I dont have it hardmounted though as I only use it on trips. I wired it to a cig lighter plug and have a 3' fiberglass magnet mount antenna. I keep all behind the rear seat so I can just pull it out, plug it in and use. It is a cheap setup and MUCH better than a handheld. The handheld are basically only good for line of sight, very limited distance.

A Cobra 75 WX ST (http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=shop/flypage&product_id=5&id=1&ps_session=e72c1f264087e8a62bcbf928efab00af4277c92 3) might be what you're looking for. It's certainly not the best at transmitting, but it would be better than a handheld, & it doesn't take up much room.

If you get the small handheld, the "box" can be installed just behind the console panel just above the gas pedal.
Did it on my dmax, and suburban.

I have the Cobra 75WXST, a three foot Wilson fiberglass antenna, and an old Gray linear. I agree that it's not a top of the line radio, but it's adequate, and you can hide the little box anywhere.

Linears are so common now that it has been 10 years since I tried to hide one when I installed. I just mount it where it is convenient. I've even used heavy tie-wraps and strapped the linear under the TXCVR.

Thanks for your opinions guys. It is still a toss up. It's nice to see more choices to choose from though!
