Antt,

That's a good link and will probably give you all the numbers you need. In strictly around town driving I generally get 15s in the warm months and 14s in the cold ones. Wednesday, though I had to make an unexpected dash down to Oakland from Sacramento. I drove 80-85 consistently on the way down and because it was late morning I was able to maintain that speed most of the way. On the way back I loafed along at 65-70. I averaged 18.6 mpg for the trip, which included a few city miles as well. I'm impressed.

I have got as good as 16.7 town and 20.4 frwy. The worst Ive got is 13.x town and 18 frwy.

I find that if I am doing short trips, and the motor doesn't get up to a good operating temperature, that my city mileage will be lower - sometimes 12.5-13.5. I generally get 14-ish around town and have gotten 19.5 on highway. But truck is still breaking in with 6k miles.

Mileage you get is dependent on where you buy fuel - I take the "buy from a high volume station" advice a little differently than most. I will buy from smaller (not truck stop) stations that are "good brand" - shell or chevron. Right now, I exclusively buy shell. I would buy chevron exclusively - but the station I drive by every morning costs 15 cents more than the shell nearby - I am afraid the fuel sits too long due to the high price...

With the Quad 135 box on the 110 setting: 19-20 in town (pre-box: 18) and 20 highway (no change from pre-box). '02 Crew-cab 4x4 ZF/6 tranny. Sure seems like the Allisons rob a lot of fuel mileage...

I'm not sure about the allison robbing fuel millage and maybe I'm just the exception also. I normally get 19 mpg around town when the temp is above 60 deg. 17 to 18 when below that. I also drive the Pa turnpike to Ohio alot and normally average about 24 MPG no mater what the temp is and I normally don't drive over 68 mph. The highest I have got on that trip is 26 mpg and the lowest 22 mpg. I think most of the mpg differances come from the foot being almost on the floor all the time.

On my trip to Florida from Ohio, I averaged 20.3 mpg. This includes one tank of sightseeing around Gainesville. Best tank was 22.77 mpg, and worst was 18.36 mpg

I just put the first 300 miles on my truck driving it home from the dealership yesterday. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif. My average econ. was 16.2 almost all highway. I am sure this will improve with breakin. And I'll see what the mileage really is the first time I go to the pump.

City = 14-15 , Hwy = 18-19. Best complete tank ( My last tank ) = 19.3 with 5500 miles on truck. It seems that the DIC is usually lower than hand calculations. Also, bucking high winds seems to really knock the mileage down.

I just read on another forum GMC-Diesel.com, that someone got a call from a 'stealer" about GMC notice regarding low mileage, low power, and noisy turbos. Have any of you heard anything about this?

BTW, I get between 16.9 to 18.2 in the city depending on my foot and the temp. Hwy is 21 to 22.3.

I wish I knew something about that. My truck gets just over 12, yes I said 12, MPG on AVG! I have yet to see any real MPG. The truck has 28k and 1,400 hours on it. The hours are high because of the "idle time" and I do account for that. I have cleaned the MAF but the mileage stays the same? When I pull my small trailer it really plummits. However, when I'm dragging the Bobcat (12k with trailer) it's only 8 to 10% less than the small trailer? I thought it might be my driving because my 02' got about the same MPG but there is just no way..... Even on cruise the trucks get about the same....what gives?

I hated that %^& *@!! Dodge but the MPG was GREAT!

I wish I could help you Burner but I can't. I to get around 12 - 13 mpg, but only in the winter time. I do start my truck 20 minutes early every morning before going to work and every afternoon before going back home. Here the temps have been in the low teens and even down to 0 a few times and I am sure you all know how long it takes to warm these things up, especially a crew cab. So, I know why I get poor mileage. Now during the summer or if I am just taking a long trip I will get anywhere from 17 - 19 city and 20 - 22 highway. I have seen it so I know she will get it. Just keeping my foot off that pedal and keeping her moving makes her happy, keeping my foot on the pedal and really moving makes ME happy. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I consistantly get 14 in town and combo city highway 16 - 18. Highway only empty 18-20 if I drive 65 in reasonably level terrain. Towing with 8600 pound TT and aux tank tool box combo and another tool box driving interstate in hills and mountains up to 10,500 ft and some back roads over all average is 10.5 and that is consistant on 2 trips for 2000 and 3600 miles each. Best towing was 12 and worst was 8.5. Average 10.5

I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one that don't get good milage.
Mostly 13 or so. Saw 15 once. Worst was 7.5 with the gooseneck on at 75mph. (yes, it will move!)
On the farm around 10-11 or so. But then I do USE the truck.

Just spent $700 on the front end. Tie-rod idler arm was worn and a wheel bearing assambly was out. Like I said, I use the thing to work.

rickles04, How often is your foot to the floor? If you have the attitude, I would assume quite often. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Here in Alaska we have several feet of snow and a lot of ice on the roads, so I am limited on how much pedal I can give it. But come summertime I expect to see the same gas mileage I am getting now because I will be checking out my new Attitude. I just wish I could use it to it's full potential NOW. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif This is the time I really miss S. Carolina. But I won't go back there again. TOO HOT and MUGGY. I like the snow. Just pulled out 2 trucks that were in the ditch today. One was a Toyota and the other was a Ford F150 with 4wd. I just put my front hitch in and hooked a tow strap and just let the idle walk him out. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Gotta luv it.

I've already done my mpg estimates from time consuming pump calculations. I always assumed filling to the rim and letting the bubbles settle would be fairly accurate. A couple of recent fills I noticed filling to the rim at the station and driving .5 mile, there is no longer fuel in the fuel neck! The neck looks to hold a few 12 oz bottles of your favorite liquid so maybe bubbles aren't getting up to the fuel neck until driving begins. Anywho, my guestimates are slightly off.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Poolrebel,

What gives that you get that kind of fuel mileage? Is that for real? It seems the average is 14-16 city and 18-21 highway.

I side with the folks that are getting in the 14 - 16 range. That's where my truck always runs. Highest I ever saw was a little over 17 with freeway driving. I have a hard time believing that people are constantly getting more than that. Especially when people start adding performance boxes etc, cause that just makes you want to get into it more. Time after time on the board and others, I've felt people are bs'ing on their fuel economy stories. Come on folks, these crew cab trucks weigh in empty at 6500 plus pounds. Every time you press the accelerator it takes fuel to get that much weight rolling. Personally, I'm not dissatisfied with getting 14 - 16. I am surprised that pulling my 5200 pound (empty) travel trailer drags it down to 10 to 11 (I was hoping for it to be more in the 12 - 13 range). Of course I could go back to my 2001 1500 extended cab - that's running in 3rd gear, 2700 rpms at 65, with occasional shifts to 2nd gear, 4000 rpms in a grade, with mileage running 8 to 9 mpg. Man I love the DMax for pulling.

I filled up yesterday and came out of town on the interstate, then jumped over on the state highway for about an 18 mile run into town at 60. I switched over to the trip meter and with about 30 miles on the tank just as I got into town the DIC said 17.2 mpg for the tank. I think that's pretty good. But by the time I made a couple of stops in town, then headed back out to my place 8 miles out, through a couple of 4 ways stops, the DIC had dropped the mileage below 15 mpg. That's the amount of fuel it takes to get that beast rolling.

Go figure your fuel economy any way you want, but you know what, when the tanks empty, you either fill it again regardless of the mpg or walk!

I envy those high mileage numbers. Just pulled a 5th wheel 1600 miles and averaged 7.5 mpg ... hoping that improves with some mileage

BlackSilver

Mine runs consistently 21 MPG empty, and about 13-14 when pulling my 5th wheel trailer. That's 'hand calculated' as the DIC over estimates the amount of fuel pumped by about 10%. (If the DIC says I've used 22 gals of fuel, it really takes only about 20 gals to fill up.)

I don't baby the truck, but neither do I run much over speed limites. I've found the 'sweet spot' for mileage is about 63-65MPH, either empty of pulling.

Are you running 4th or 5th gear while pulling the 5th wheel?

5TH gear, with Tow/Haul. If I run around 65MPH it holds 5th gear very well except on grades. About 62-63 MPH seems to be the 'sweet spot' for my combination.

I can't say as I understand it, but I can tell you that my mileage is what it is. My truck doesn't have the DIC, my mileage is calculated the same way every time: I fill it up, I divide the mileage on the trip odometer by the gallons just put into the tank. Then I reset the trip. I do this every time I fill up so there is no issue with not getting it full each time. I get 19-20 city & highway, period. I have seen as low as 18 once in a while in the city, but never lower. I don't tow anything. I have an '02 crew cab 4x4, the stock dinky skateboard 245 tires, and the ZF/6 manual tranny. I also have the 135 quad box set on the 110 setting. I do not baby it either. Even before the box, I never saw less than 18 that I recall. If I were getting 13-14 not towing anything, I think I would have taken the truck back to the dealer a long time ago...

I have the following to report on my milage.

The best average three tank fill ups in a row were 21.1, 21.2, 21.1, near 7000 miles mark. Trips are daily 55 miles each way and both country and some state highway miles always empty. The normal average for this trip is mid 20's. currently in the mid 18's do to winter fuel blend.

The best one time interstate trip was 20.4 for an average of 66 mph, note that I was following the wife in her caddi/northstar, and this was fuel stop to fuel stop and with lots of furniture in the bed, (helping daughter move) .

I had one trip on the interstate which was very high but I discounted as I tailgated tractor/trailers to get the best milage, this was 23.7. I did this just to see what I could do with it. I think some of the truckers were getting P.....O...

I have tested several tank fulls of biodiesel B20, B5, and B2. All were with certified soybean fuel only. no french fryer oil. my truck does not like B20 as nearly 3 mpg loss plus cost a fortune, B5 was ok but still too costly, and B2 I am currently using as it seem to have the same milage as BP supreme but only 0.04 per gallon more. I plan to discontinue the testing as certified soybean oil is getting very hard to get. I am also concerned about moisture problems during the winter months. I am also concerned about the compatibility of the additives with soybean diesel fuel. They were originally designed for straight diesel, long before biodiesel.

I do use FPPF TP/Cetane boost the same mixture JK Kennedy uses.

The winter front does keep the milage up as the D/A is a lot warmer. I think some of the low mpg is or may be attributed to the allison more than the duramax. especially in winter months.

Now for towing I have not had the opportunity to test long milage trips for towing yet. I have towed horse trailers, stock trailers and even a lowboy with a backhoe several times but only short trips. The power is very impressive. All my towing to date with this truck is just for farm usage. My DIC was in the 11 to 12 most of the time.

The DIC is not very accurate for some reason usually low about 0.5 to 0.7 mpg

City driving is usually in the high 17's but since winter blend it is always lower more in the low 16's.

Well thats my experience, and all milage was based on actual gallons used and actual milage from the odometer.

I have 3500 miles and just installed a Edge Juice with Attitude. Gained 3 mpg on the freeway at 70 mph. I checked mpg day before installation same stretch of freeway and day of installation. I am confident with my results. FYI, I was getting 16/17 mpg prior and 19/20 after install. I have 325/16 Michelins. I think they are 325 or 335 cant remember.

I have to admit I'm a leadfoot..but still get 19 on highway, about 15 city, overall about 17-18. Beats the hell out of any gas-engined truck I've seen! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Extremely happy with that!
