I forgot to put the 4wd back into 2Hi before going on a hunting trip, driving at least 150 miles on the Hyway at speeds up to 80mph. I finally spotted it. It was in 4High and I shifted to 2High. The question is, did I do any damage to the 4wd? Also, I don't have a light in the dash that comes on to indicate 4wd. The light in the push buttons seem to be working properly. Is there an easy way to tell if 4wd is working without going to a mud puddle?
Thanks

Been there done that got the t-shirt...

Many of us have done it and I don't think it's hurt anyone's truck as of yet...

Been there, done that.

Pulled out of a snowy field onto icy/gravel road then forgot to take it out when I hit the cleared roads.

75 miles pulling a 6,000 lb trailer, in 4HI about 70-75 mph.

This was in my '97 Z71 with approx. 30,000 miles on it at the time. I sold it when I bought the DMax with 160,000 miles plus. Never had any drive train problems. In fact, I sold it to a neighbor who has well over 220,000 on it now, pulling a trailer and a boat with no problems.

In short, you are probably OK.

BTDT, got hollered at by the drunk in the passenger seat. He gets nervous when he's not driving anyway.

I'm in the club also, forgot to switch to 2 Hi after 1/2 hour on gravel roads, drove about 30 miles on blacktop two lane before I realized what I had done. I thought it would be more obvious I was in 4WD on blacktop.

Not me... (no more than a few times anyway for a few miles). What t-shirt? Wife drove her Tahoe 15 miles home in 4 Low a few months ago. Told me something was wrong 'cause it was making a terrible noise and she said it didn't steer right or want to go over 35. DOH!!! Told her after I put it back where it belonged to FORGET that there was a 4LO button... Now SHE needs the t-shirt!

Done that too, glad I'm not the only one.:duh: Drove about 50-70 mile IIRC, sounded and drove different then I realized it was in 4wd. Been about 2-3 years, no problems!

Whenever I have done that, I didn't go very far before I switched it back to 2wd. Our trucks in 4wd let us know that it is in 4wd.

Add me to the t shirt club. Done it many times in every Chevy i owned, pulling boats outta rough boatramps and forgetting to switch back. Never had any problems...

No bashing here, but the steering, sound, feel and less power tells me right away I'm in 4Hi.
Is this just my truck, tires (all 3 sets) or do I have a problem?

smokin,
not just you, but if you dont have to make a sharp turn, you wont have any odd sounds or feelings.

according to the manual using 4wd on the highway for extended periods of time can cause premature wear. but you didnt go far so i wouldnt worry about it.
