Has anyone cut and extended the wires leading to the sensor? I was checking the wires out and the distance to the tranny and it seems like it is going to be close.

Which sensor on the tranny?

I'm talking about adding a new temp Gauge to the pan. It looks like it's going to be real close in length.

Another question I have is when I add the probe I'm going to change the transmission fluid and filter. I would like to add a synthetic as I heard they keep temps down better. Which one to use and how much. Did a search but after checking first group of thread I gave up.

do you mean the thermocouple wire? can't go wrong with mobil 1 synthetics and easy to find also

On my Pillar mount Transmission gauge wires run to a circuit box then two wires run to the thermal probe that is put into the pan. I just wanted to know if anyone has extend these wires. Will it throw the gauge off?

I really need to get a camera!:D

can't extend thermocouple wires unless you get the same type (j,k,t, etc.) and run an extension cord type deal using plug jacks which shouldn't be exposed to the elements

Was thinking that wires where a little special.

When I change the tanny fluid and add synthetic I heard that dino and synthetic don't mix well. Is this a real problem or is the synthetic just diluted a little bit until you do a couple of changes?

mixing is not a problem but to get as much pure synthetic in there as possible, i am going to change to a deep pan, fill it with synthetic and then put the transmission return line in a pail and start the truck in park. as the line spits out the fluid i will keep up as much as possible by having syn. in gallon containers ready and pour them in the dipstick. when i have gone through 20 quarts or so that should be good enough.

Nevermind, reread it and it does sound like a thermocouple. I guess you shouldn't extend it.

I switched to synthetic at 87,000 miles when I got the truck, and still change it about once a year, or 20,000 miles. I would rather buy some Mobil 1 then a new 4L80E.
