: Black tail pipe and smoke?
ProTracGear 06-03-2009, 12:01 AM got a 09 2500 only have 4000 miles on it. i went on a trip this past weekend with it. on the way back had to bring another vehicle back for my shop to work on. i was following my girlfriend and noticed that the tailpipe was black on the inside. i havent seen this on other trucks around. i have been kinda looking for it on other diesels that i pass by when im driving. also saw a bit of a puff when i started it the other day. i also saw the same thing when i was folowing my truck whenever it downshifted to pass someone.. i thought that the filters in the exhaust would prety much eliminate this. is something wrong?
mielage was good i think i was empty and getting 18 mpg. maby im being paranoid.. ???
hschiro 06-03-2009, 12:54 AM diesels are meant to smoke! It is possible that the truck you bought has some type of tuner on it. The stock trucks really don't smoke at all in the newer line-ups. maybe the erg is blocked or rerouted.
ProTracGear 06-03-2009, 01:22 AM bought it off the dealer lot. had 2 miles when i drove off the lot. they said if i chipped it they would kiss my warrenty goodbye

On the contrary, the LMM is not SUPPOSED to smoke out the pipe. The motor itself will smoke, but it's that lovely device called the DPF that's supposed to get rid of the smoke before the truck exhales out the pipe. If you've got an 09 with 4000 on it, I'd take it to a dealership... The DPF is cracked and they should replace it. Unless you don't mind something being wrong (and not so wrong) about your truck...
Whether or not you remove it in the future is up to you, but at 4k I'd like to have a working version. Mine cracked at about 20k and started letting smoke out. I like it, and think it's the best thing that can happen...no check engine light, less regen, and more smoke...

Paul Clancy 06-03-2009, 03:46 AM I'd get it fixed. Hard to have a new truck with something defective.

jugman 06-03-2009, 11:18 AM I would drive it if it wasn't giving any problems. Or we could swap.:D

Keep track of the regens they happen roughly every 300-380 miles and last about 25 miles, if you don`t have any or the regen time is shorter. "smile"
If there is no ck eng lights, and it runs good then keep on smiling.
And stay away from the dealer if you can.
07DuramaxHD 06-03-2009, 04:47 PM It all depends on if you want the DPF replaced since it's only got 4K on it. If it were me, I'd drive it until your warranty was coming to an end and go and have the DPF replaced, drive it home, remove the DPF, and straight pipe it. :D
ProTracGear 06-03-2009, 10:18 PM ya i probably will take it in. today i had a lightshow on my dashboard. service brakes. service traction control, service trailer brakes, service stabilitrack, abs light on, trac controle light on, and brake light came on. but then went off after a few key cycles. took it for a drive got it warm, parked it 5 min later jumped in started it backed up. and trac controle was commin on and then turned off and it all lit up again. kinda frustrating
maxxflip 06-04-2009, 09:45 PM Wow i dont think the dpf would cause all that maybe a CEL
ProTracGear 06-05-2009, 12:13 AM no its a seperate problem maby one of the mods can move that to the apropriate forum??

Ahhh, the good ole' Christmas Tree light show on the dash, huh?? I'd be heading the dealers way with that one. No fun. Let us know what happens! :) Good luck.
