Am leaving Tuesday with the family on vacation and need some help from you good folks. Have a 95 6.5L suburban and went out to start her this morning and she wont turn over. As I turn the key all is normal, glow plugs come on etc... but when continuing to try and start there is nothing from the starter. I can hear the lift pump come on but nothing at all from the starter. With a Volt meter I read nothing from the wire to the solenoid from the ignition, but if i remove the wire from the solenoid I get 12 plus Volts. I did run a jumper from the solenoid to the battery and when touching the battery the starter turns over fine. Took the starter in to Autozone and it tested OK. Would very much appreciate some help.

Sounds like ignition switch. If you have 12 V on the wire with the solenoid disconnected and the key in the crank position, but the solenoid pulls it to 0V, then you have resistance in the switch.

Went to replace the ignition switch ($204 ouch) but removed and reseated all the connections before I made the purchase. It ended up that the connection on what I assume is the Park-Neutral switch was not making good contact. Problem solved........... thanks for the advice
