From my readings the dealership is the only way if you have a stock truck to force the truck into a manual regen. Aside from that, I think there are some tuners that have the capability for a user to force the truck into a manual regen but I've heard some nasty things about them.

Hope that helps you out some!

Not sure if they visually inspect but a Tech II can read the values off the EGT sensors and pressure Diff. They use a Tech II to start the regen process. Some tuners can start the DPF clean process too. Been reading about cracked DPFs so you might what to get a service appointment and have it checked. If one new the data values of those items and soot level then maybe it might help to explain whats going.

FYI...black pipe = cracked DPF. That's the only way the inside of the pipe turns black. Unless you spray paint it. :D

The DPF is not clogged. If it was, your truck would be giving you a message that you need to take a long drive at higher speed. Take the truck to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty.

That message says "clean exhaust filter" and cannot be missed. You can't hit the button and make that one go away. It stays until it's cleaned itself out. But agreed, back to the dealership and a new DPF will be fitted. :)

I was at a Cat dealership. They had this funny lookin machine that made a lot of noise.
I asked what it was, turns out to be a dpf cleaner..... looked and sounded like a vacum cleaner way overdosed on steroids......
