Looking at bumper replacements, and was going to go with a RANCHHAND, but saw a ROAD ARMOR one this afternoon and it really looked good. Here are some pics--

anyone here owned one? Any disadvantages with what you see possibly? Just looking for input/opinions.......

i have owned the stealth series for almost two years now. I like it alot, it is pretty stout without alot of wasted weight. I color matched mine to the truck, not sure I would go chrome, if it starts to peel it is gone.....

I get many compliments, it is built well. the only down side is the cost. I got mine for $990, plus shipping. i like it a lot more than the ranch hands, but depends on what you like.

In my opinion, the RanchHand is far too wimpy to really do any good. They're for looks, and that's it in my book.

I'm also looking for something I can shmuck a deer at 70 with and not crinkle like all the wimpy ones out there.

I am surprised that there are no pics of that bumper on a GMC and why did they screw up the front bumper portion closest to the truck grille. That makes no sense why they did not mold it better to match the front. But, I know they are made decent but still could use some refinement..

got any pics? How do you like it? Glad you bought it? Yea, i think this one could take a deer at 70 mph no problem, my last ranchhand did fairly well, just bent it a bit......but nothing serious, hit it outside Blanco......

The road armor hangs nearly as low as the stocker, which is one reason I want to replace the stocker. I like the buckstop (www.buckstop.biz (http://www.buckstop.biz)) better. I think I'll try to build one that is a combo of the ranch hand and buckstop.

I've got a frontiergear frontend replacement, basically the same as ranchhand. Pretty sure I could take a deer on at 70. I can sure push cattle with it!

If i got another horn, id like it to be an AIR HORN so it sounds like a freight train!
Can you put those air horn systems on our trucks?

If you want to add a tank, compressor, and ultra sexy in cab valve to push some air through the horns.........

I was implying that a train horn would be the ticket to go along with a nice big ass bumper.

Not sure if you where talking to me but, you can get them here http://www.jaeeagle.com/air_horns_compressors.php, I got mine here www.4statetrucks.com (http://www.4statetrucks.com) , they also have fancy air valves. Just don't get the two horn trumpet, trust me I had it, it sucked. With all of the airbag systems out there, I am sure you could put something together.

Here is an old thread witih bumper pics... and a page of URL's for different bumper manufacturers if you want to do some window shopping.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23363&page=2&pp=10&highlight=bumper+pics

Mike has some great pics up there of his new Buckstop Baja on his dmax. You can also see some pics of it on his site

http://www.sandbros.com/mikesride/chevy/dmax/shoot/dmax.htm

It's a sweet bumper - made for bouncin deer off of it. I will say though - that some folks have had problems with Buckstop recently - they are growing so fast they can't handle it - had a building move that was troublesome etc. So, if you are hoping to get it quick - don't order from them. I called the other day to place an order - and she joked about it with me. She was new - so I have to call back and talk to Dorian to place the order. Got to give him credit - he called me back within a few hours - but got my vmail... gotta call him back. They are trying their best I think to keep pace...but I recommend you maintain a realistic delivery expectation if you order from them. I"m going to order one - just haven't done it yet.

Interesting enough... AMP research is having the same probem with their power steps. the demand is so high - they can't keep up and are beginning to ramp up other manufacturing partners. I ordered mine from Electricstep on 3/28 - all they can tell me is that it will be AT LEAST 8 weeks - maybe longer.

At least it's good to see the economy rolling...

When I had the bumper on the 2001, I mowed down a deer at 70 mph. Lots of blood.

On this truck, only a dodge in a low speed pile up a year ago. Scratched my paint. He needed new bumper. My rear bumper was bent also. Two months later the semi took care of my rear bumper and bed. So, I decided to make the rear a tank also! Plus, tons more bed storage! Almost finished with the bed mods, then I will paint color match to cab and post pics.

Now the important question. Stacks before or after paint! :grd:

Looks like someone posted the pic's of my Buckstop.

When I ordered I asked about a winch and IIRC he recommended a 12K Warn. This is out of my budget right now but I feel this bumper could lift the weight of my truck and trailer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif The door in the top of the bumper allows access to the winch if needed. In my case it's kind of hard to remove the door due to my huge lights.

The wait is worth it to me. Took a little less than a month for mine. I had it Powder coated locally to match my truck. It's a work of art and is very well made :ro)

IMO the pic's of the road armor posted in the beginning of this thread would have down way to far on a stock height truck.

I like the Ranchhands but too high priced. I built mine, well it's not quite finished yet.I used 2 5"pieces of channel stacked on top of each other. Then attached it to the frame with 4 pieces of 3"x3/8" plate. It isn't going anywhere.I'm going to use 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" pipe for the guard. Then I'll weld some 2"x 1/4" plate infront of the main uprights. They can be built for $175-$250 depending how strong you want them if you don't count your time. One local guy built a couple for himself and some friends and they would stop deer at 80+mph.

view of the winch bay, some of it is recessed under the grille. this is one of the earliest bumpers road armor made, coverage on top under the lights has since been refined. I think mine was the first one or two.

recessed light bays, frenched in. designed for PIAA 510 and 540 style lights

full frontal view, still have not purchased lights or the winch yet :o:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/ski1/pmti0004.jpg

side view around the fender well, you can see the "rock plate" underneath the front. i think there is about 12" - 14" of clearance there.
