Works good so far, but I don't like having to plug in 3 connections every time I take it on and off. Even 2 on my old Fisher was 1 too many. 1 electrical connection should be it. Maybe Somedayhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Gradyghost 12-20-2003, 06:43 PM Is it bad to leave ballast in the truck all the time?

Duallyvette 12-21-2003, 01:17 AM GradyGhost; I'm shopping for a v plow for my k3500 dump truck. Are you satisfied with the 8'6" v plow on the dually. Is it wide enough. A 9'6" plow just looks too big to me, but im afraid a 8'6" wouldn't cover the width of a dually.
Gradyghost 12-21-2003, 08:15 AM Duallyvette,
I think it covers the width just fine.
If you make a sharp sharp turn the wheels cut into the path but they will on a single rear wheel as well.
I donno what kinda plowing you intend on doing but the V is the way to go for me.
Issues I had in the beggining.
1. plow sits low when all the way up. Fixed with ballast
2. fishstick hard to use. You get used to it real fast. I love it!
3. Front end sag. 150 dollar black rubber donuts (timbrens)

Duallyvette 12-21-2003, 11:02 AM GradyGhost; Thanks for the information. Do you know what your front axle weight is without/ and with the plow?. From the dealers I've contacted, the best price I've come up with is a Boss plow. I am afraid that the 8'2" won't be wide enough. The 9'2" looks awfully big in some of the posts I've seen.

White Duramax 12-21-2003, 12:19 PM I know quite a few guys around here that are running Boss 9'2' V-plows on srw Duramax's and furds. They have no problem.

Gradyghost 12-22-2003, 07:55 PM I donno what it weighs....but I'll go run to the truck stop scales 15 miles away for ya if you want!@
Duallyvette 12-22-2003, 11:00 PM Gradyghost; I weighed my DA SC k3500 dump truck- frt axle was 4400 lbs. I thought that was high. The truck empty weighs 9200 lbs.
I thought that the frt would weigh less on your SC DA ( i'm looking for one to buy now). I weighed my DA/CC this morning. frt axle weighed 4380 lbs. yours will probably be close in weight, but thanks all the same.
Gradyghost....
Don't forget, these trucks are used by commercial companies that load them up with tool boxes and work equipment. Ballast all the time should be no problem. The rear suspension on these trucks is pretty tough.
Gradyghost 12-23-2003, 02:19 PM Thanks Hoot,
Was just kinda wondering....My trucks are hooked up to 12-15ooolb trailers half the year.
mndmax 12-23-2003, 07:27 PM Western 8.5 MVP on my 2003 GMC. So far I love it. This diesel pushes alot of snow!!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/887_DSC00873tdp.jpg
mikemjmc 12-23-2003, 07:59 PM Hey mndmax, how about a picture with the plow up.
mndmax,
I see we have similar tastes.... nice setup!
Tell us some of your experiences with it both good and bad.Edited by: hoot
chevmeister 12-23-2003, 11:11 PM duallyvette i like boss but you know that v has no trip edge..... you hit something you and the truck will definately know about it. Edited by: chevmeister
Duallyvette 12-24-2003, 01:54 AM Yea, I've heard how the Boss V plow can stop you dead when its in the < or> position. Does another brand have this problem solved. I don't care for the trip edge concept. Is there anything else + or - about the Boss. I've ordered one. It should be in soon.
I was going to put it on my 2001 k3500 dump truck. I thought a shorter wheelbase would be better so I traded the 2001 dumper ( only used to tow a GN trailer) (159" wb)for a 2004 SC DA k3500(133"wb) dually, LS w/all the bells & whistles( LT not available on Single Cab) including the plow prep package. I located it on cars.com. found it 200 miles away. I drove up today and now I have a new truck.
mndmax 12-24-2003, 06:16 AM I'll work on the picture with the plow up. I don't think I took one yet.
Hoot,
I was a little skeptical going to the MVP. I plowed for several years with an 8' poly-pro Western and it worked great. Only thing was I ended up "chasing rows" too much with the straight blade. The MVP in scoop helps out alot. I am pleasantly suprised with the durability of the V plow. As much as I hate to admit it, I have hit a few curbs( and 1 lightpolehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif) with the plow in scoop. I did bumps some curbs while stacking before I cranked the torsion bars a few turns. No problems so far.
The Uni-mount was good. The Ultra-mount is awesome!!!!! I can't see complaining about 3 power cords when the mounting is so simple. Just my thoughts-no offense.
Gradyghost 12-24-2003, 09:17 AM What! No trip on the Boss V? That sounds scary.... I think the Western and the Fisher have a trip on the V's. I am sure the Boss V has some way to compensate for hitting something.
Hoot I just visited My local Western dealer....15 miles away. They have a wharehouse of Western plows, parts, accesories, etc...If you ever need parts let me know because they are "stocked up".
Mndmax....Nice looking setup....hows it plow?
Nobull...is your two yard sander stainless? Do you need to wash it out all the time? Will it handle wet sand? How do you keep the sand from freezing? I just froze all my wet sand and I had to use sledge hammer to break it up...urgh...
Duallyvette...congrats on the new truck.
DO all of you guys with plows have the Plow Prep Package?
My truck (Crew Diesel) is not avail with plow prep.
As you can see in my picture there is a trip edge on the Western V. Gradyghost, the actual blades Western/Fisher are parctically the same except for the edge. You have a full trip angle and no cutting edge. I have a partial angle with a bolted on edge.
The Boss is a full trip plow. I saw a video of a full trip V... the blade literally launches. Our blades have the trip edge and hydraulic relief valves.
Thanks for the tip on parts. Western parts typically are easy to get.
Mike

Well I will answer a question I was not asked as well.
Boss has a full trip not a edge trip.In straight or angle no problem to trip the plow, in v or scoop could be a different story.I don't really have a problem with this as I am the only one who drives my truck and I just putt along and know my route. Also I very seldom us v just for end of roads to get them open under normal snow conditions. The scoop mode I find I over use that but I know my route and rarely hit anything so it is not a problem others might not be so lucky. When I say over use I mean it is easy to get stuck when you are pushing 8 feet wide 6 feet high 15 feet long pile of snow in front of you in scoop mode should have took pic's, maybe this year http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
Now the question you asked
2 yard sander is steel not stainless could not justify the cost for my little company.Yes I do wash it out after use or the chain will stick to the bed of my truck like it was glued than you have to wash to get it to move http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif sort of pay me now or double later.Wet sand ah let me tell you one of many.Put sand in sander go to first job 5 miles down the road hit switch clutch won't turn sand has frozen to chain and bed in 10 mins.So get out the shovel spread by hand until maybe 15% left and am able to get chain freehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif.In my area the people have wells and don't want salt, only sand so I can't do what most do and mix it to keep it from freezing.I think the only answer is to have dry sand stored on your property if possible or to buy it dry[real expensive].I don't have a answer myself for this year as I was too busy this summer to think about sand storage for the winter. The answer is I believe to make a three sided cement block storage area with a removeable top.In my case I can load myself with my excavator so that would work for me. In your case if you cannot load your own you need a supply of dry sand cheap. The other thing that works pretty good if you can get it is pea stone 1/8 to 1/4 ? stone without the dirt as it does not freeze as solid as sand due to the size and works real good for traction and not near as messy for the customer.Anything else let me know and let me know what the answer ishttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif,always looking for a better way.And remember you grab the bag I'll close the flue HO HO HO Merry Christmas<IMG onMouseOver="this.style.cursor='hand'" onMouseOut="this.style.cursor=''" alt='Click on ima
