OK as per my sig for my truck, i have alot of slop in my steering and the wheel its starting to go crooked. I know i need pit man arm and idler arm. I have my mechanic buddy comming over this week (hopefully) and were going to check out the ball joints, tie rods, bearings ect.

So I call the dealership and they want 300 for idler arm kit and 300 for pitman arm. What is this bracket eveybody keeps quoting me for? Is that just another servicable item on the idler arm?

I called napa here (im in canada) and they want 199 for pitman arm and 176.90 idler arm and 152.86 for idlear arm bracket?? and the brand is Affinia? Anybody heard of this brand at all?

OK then i go online to rockauto and the prices for the same stuff is like soooooooo cheap i dont get it and the parts are spicer/raybestos?

See the links i have attached here. There is so many parts its listing. Could anybody tell me what i would really need to replace the idler /pitman arm as per the links attached? Why so cheap from these guys, should I stay away from them? Im looking at say around 700 bucks here or around 140 +shipping ect bucks or so through roackauto.

Ive doen lots of work on vehicles but never any front end besides brakes. Plus im used to drag link/king pin bears ect ect.. this is all new... can somebody add in there 2 cents? Also dealer said there is a differece between splines so i have to take mine off to see but most online parts onlit list 3 groove splines and dealer ship has 3 and 4 splines?

Sorry for the long post

I just got ball joints and tie rods from Rockauto. They were by far the best price I could find. And I have heard good things about the Spicer/Raybestos parts. I ordered on Friday and they were on my doorstep the next day.

As much as i would LOVE to buy these I just dont have the money. By the time its converted to CND, shipping , GST, Customs were prob around 700 bucks. That why i am asking you guys about the rockauto where the prices are cheaper YET they list spice acdelco and name brand equipment. Even though ill prob have to replace these twice in stead of just once with Norcal i really dont have a choice now, but i have to get them changed before vacation.

Can anybody tell me from the rockauto links what exactly i need to order? I still dont know what this idler arm bracket is?? Norcal doesnt show it, excpet for there little bracktes that help stiffen up the joints. Thanks all I really appreciate all the help from all of you.

ahh well I up in Ontario. SHipping was cheap and no duty cuz they are American parts. Exchange is $0.10 on the dollar plus your taxes. So you shouldn't be anymore than $600. And u know your getting good plats plus the braces.

Who was the courier? I know UPS bends us over all the time here. So do they supply a NAFTA sheet so i dont have to pay duty how does that work with them? I have bought american made before but UPS still got me for a beefed up tierod for my chevota, duty was just about as much as the tie rod.

There is no duty on parts made in the USA. You're thinking of brokerage and that's a fee that UPS charges to clear your shipment through customs. Affinia is the parent company of Raybestos and Wix, just to name a few. Spicer bought Raybestos awhile back and Affinia bought Spicer & Wix from Dana. If you're going to buy those suspension parts, buy the Spicer Professional Grade. They're the best OEM replacements out there. Where in Canada are you located, because if you're close to the West Coast I may be able to help you get that Rock Auto stuff out of the U.S. for cheap.

Well I gotta chime in here as I just bought the braces from Merchant.. $38 CAD in duties plus the USD exchange. Bought both the arms from Nick at NorCal - no duty.

Weird cause both came by USPS...anyway..need to wait till I get some cash for the install...but these items are in my opinion potential life savers and well worth the dollars given the mileage I do.

IMHO, buy the best and 99.9% of the time it will be cheaper in the long run..its why I don't buy shoes from Wallmart anymore..! LOL

cheers,

stk

Yep, that's the right number for the Pivot assembly, the Idler arm is 4501121 and the Pitman arm is 4451075. The idler attaches to the Pivot Assembly. You should call Rock Auto and see if they will ship to you by USPS because the post office doesn't charge brokerage. If that doesn't work I go to the U.S. all the time and I could pick the stuff up for you and ship it to Calgary. The cost in CDN dollars for the $58.00 Idler pivot is only $64.00 CDN. Your saving over $100.00 if you bought it up here. If you buy all the parts down there and I pick them up for you and ship from Vancouver your still going to save a hell of a lot of money. In fact you'll save enough to make it more than worth your while to do this. Crunch some numbers and I'm guessing I could ship your parts from here to Calgary for about $20.00. Let me know if I can help, because as I said, I go South all the time and picking up the parts is no problem.

You know what i totally agree with you 100% but when you dont have the money you just dont have money, ive had a lot of bad luck latley and i dont know what to say. I would love to get from NorCal but i cant really afford it. But its not like im buying my parts from walmart from a total no name. These are spicer professional or ac delco. The thing is I can from some time from now, buy the braces that Norcal sells which after reading the website and install use them with my new idler and pitman arms. My truck sees maybe 10k km a year not many at all so i could buy his braces in 6 months from now and only have 5k on the new parts.According to his install that should work.

My main thing is im going on vacation in a month and prob driving 4k for just my vacation and all new spicer front end that i can afford seems like the right thing to do especially when i minght need tie rods, and ball joints too maybe. This is no disrespect to NorCal if i had the money i would go to him in a heart beat. I've checked out reviews from him and his website and his reputation and its very impressive. I do thank you for you input too and everybody else. Its why i love this site and everybody on it.
