Hopefully one of you experts can address this question. When I change my fuel filter (2003 LB7), I remove the aux battery in order to have more room to change the filter. The last time I changed my filter, I noticed that the Positive terminal cable was warm to the touch when I went to reinstall the battery ( as a precaution I always cover the lead to prevent shorting against something). Will removing the aux battery and leaving the primary battery connected cause any problems with the electrical system?

It won't hurt a thing unless the positive wire shorts out to ground. Then you have BIG problems. You better make darn sure that there is no way it can short out. Either that or just disconnect the positive terminal on the other battery.

When I took out the Aux battery I wrapped my positive and negative battery terminals in electrical tape. Should that be OK? (Not together of course:lol: )

It will be fine. Maybe a little bit of overkill.

There is no need to do anything with the negative terminal, just the positive will be fine.

I have always pulled out the passenger side wheel well liner to do my fuel filter. Some feel that is more work but I like it as it gives you mucho access. If you haven't done so before you take a little screw driver ( or two ) and pop out the center pin of the plastic retainer. Dirt gets in them so they can be a pain until you get your technique workin. Eric (gmdieseltech.com ) sells replacements also. Anyway enough said but it does give nice access to drain and replace.....Bill

once you get proficient, spread the A/C lines a bit and use a gallon size zip lock to collect spillage and bring it up through the top, a lot less time and effort. I have done it all three ways, if you ever have to change one on the side of the road which sounds, which sounds the easiest ? ;)

I use a strap wrench that you can use a 1/2 inch ratchet and extension to loosen the filter. The gallon zip lock bag sure keeps you from making a mess on floor.:ro)

No way that cable terminal should be warm to the touch unless it was touching someting and arcing
