: don't need fingerstick?

Just installed a straight pipe with no muffler or anything and I don't see a check engine light. I suppose since the check engine light didn't come on I really don't need to install the fingerstick?

What kind of truck do you own?
Does it have a cat?

If it doesn't code, consider yourself lucky. Most LLY's do.

The only reason you need to run a Finger Stick is:

Insufficient backpressure to run the EGR.
You've blocked the EGR.

If you block it, you'll certainly need the stick.

thank you, I already have the stick with me so if it does come on I will install it.

Well, even though you don't have a check engine light you still will have code.

The light will only come on with certain emissions packages (North East and CA).

When i first got my Truck i removed the cat and added 4 inch cut out as close as i can to the front. I used to drive it alot with the cut out open. Never threw a code.

Then i Put my 5 Inch.. and then the codes came within the first mile that i drove it from the Muffler shop. I guess the five inch all the way to the back with muffler flows more then stock no cat and a cutout.

put a scanner on it and see if you have a code. most likely, the code is their and your truck has federal emissions. only the northeast and cali will set the SES light on for you.

where do i get a scanner to see about the code?

Will leaving it that way hurt anything?

Most parts store have certain scanners for sale or you can buy a Predator, it'll read codes too.

Here's my question: I have 5" exhaust, no cat, blocked egr, fingerstick, no light (Federal emissions) but sometimes I have the code, sometimes I don't? Why? About 80% of the time I have the code, but the rest of the time I don't - what gives?

The codes do not affect performance that I can tell. All my best runs have been with the CEL lit.

What states are considered the Northeast? I ask because I'm in NJ and I have the EGR blocked, Banks Monster exhaust from CAT back and don't have the finger stick installed (have it, but been lazy installing it). I have the Predator and check for codes often and never have thrown a code. Does it matter that I had the truck built as far far as Fed emissions are concerned? Technically, Jersey is in the Mid-Atlantic belt.

That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out. The fingerstick is installed correctly and soldiered good but I still set the codes 401 and 404 most of the time - no SES light.

Return the stick to me for a refund or exchange. No questions asked.

My 05 LLY is a Wisconsin truck and has Cali emmissions junk WTF??? I ordered it so its not like they didn't know where it was going, build date of 12/18/04. I keep forgetting to look as I order one for work the same time, 2500HD and it was bulit a week sooner, not sure what emissions are on it, Oil change this week so I'll look. If I set 401/404 the SES light will come on after the 2nd time, the 0299 is the PIA for me, firt tow next week with the blocker plate and stick, prior I just had the stick. Time will tell. I have not set the 1093 since I installed my Supertank, never put more than 45 galons in though.

So does that mean that if you don't have a north east or CA truck you don't need the finger stick?

nope, that doesn't. just because the light doesn't come on, doesn't mean that codes aren't present.

Right on!

when i put my EGR blocker plate on, i didn't get an SES light, but the codes were stored and you couldnt see them without the scan tool.
I installed the FingerStick and cleared the codes and it no longer throws the codes. Thanks Fingers!

by the way, if you don't know what a Finger Stick is, use the search function and you will have all the info you could want and then some.
