I just moved to Arizona a couple of months ago and need help in finding a good place to have work done on my LLY. First I want to have my CAT removed (again) I had it put back in in California cause I was having problems but now not sure if that was it or not. So far I can not find anyone to do exhaust here. any help is welcomed.:grd:

I live in the west Phoenix valley area but I work all over the place. Sorry for the lack of info.

It's actually a fairly simple install. I did a write up somewhere.

Jack the right front tire up a lot.
Pull the fender liner.
A 7/16" deep socket will remove the clamp to the downpipe.
4 15mm bolts hold the intermediate pipe to the catback.
There is an exhaust hanger you must unbolt as well that attaches to the trans.
The pipe comes out the front.

For someone with simple hand tools, a floor jack, and medium mech experience, it is a 3 beer job. One beer to jack up the truck. One beer to get the old pipe out, and one beer to put the new one in. About 1 hr.

For the mechanically challenged, use 40 oz beers.

thanks for the help,

only one problem.....I have had it removed once and relocated when put back in. It will require a weldder which I don't have. I had 4" magnaflow exhaust put on about 1 year ago and the cat was welded back in about a foot to the rear from the original location. So the best I can figure I need to cut out the CAT and butt weld a piece of 4" in place or I have to replace the whole 4" pipe from the downpipe to the muffler. In either case I need a welder and again I don't own one. Now if it becomes a whole lot more difficult than it has alread been to find a shop I may have to buy a welder and go the route but I am hoping to find a place first...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/help.gif

Do you still have the four bolt flange or did it go away w/ the reinstall? If it is still there you can buy just the down pipe from a manuf. like MBRP. Just unbolts, pretty straight forward.

Phoenix is in Maricopa county, which does have emission testing requirements. You will ultimately have to take the truck to an inspection station for testing. Their computer dispay tells them what to look for on the different model years. New vechicles are normally exempt from physical testing for a few years.

I do not know how they handle initial registration for vechicles coming from another state. I know that in the past, they did inspect for the correct VIN number.

Be sure and save the cat, because you may need it to pass inspection at some point.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif no I don't have the flange anymore. It went away with the initial install of the magnaflow kit. thanks for the idea turbotug....

Thanks for the emission's info. I am new to AZ and didn't know about that. When I registered my truck she didn't look past the VIN so I am glad I found that out. I may just redo the pipe with flanges so I can swap out the CAT when needed. I can just tell a difference with it in and out so I prefer to remove it. I have an AFE stage II intake and a programmer and exhaust so I can't imagin it'll bloww any more smoke than it already does.

I would just try the phone book. When I was looking to straight pipe mine I recall most of the shops that could handle it being in the west valley...Or just start over and get a full system. I think I only spent $550 plus shipping for my completer MBRP. Kinda sucks they had/chose to weld. Does'nt make much sense:think:
