I just registered here on DP. I have a new 05 with D/A. I love the truck, everything seems perfect. My truck has a build date of 10/04. Is this the LLY motor? What are the differences between LLY and LB7. Thanks.

Yes, LLY motor.

Cat Converter, better injectors, egr valve & designed to run on the new ULS fuel (Ultra Low Sulfur) the LLY is.

Welcome Sandstone!

Your 2005 LLY Duramax also has a variable geometry/vane turbo (VVT), which it is said helps the LLY make more than 600ft/lbs of torque aside from the benefit of lower emissions. Your stock LLY is rated at more power than the stock LB7s.

The engine also has a better design for the heads allowing the replacement of the injectors, God forbid, to be facilitated with greater ease.

You've got fast-heating glow plugs; a different overall fuel system and fuel management system; a revised cooling system; and a different engine cover designed to reduce noise.

Here in Michigan, LLY owners can appreciate the high idle option for faster warm-ups.

Thanks for all the info, I am a former ford 6.0 PSD owner. That truck had to go! My new D/A is awsome.
