They say no need for block heater till 0 degrees farenhiat. Not sure what part of illinois your in but southern part like southern Indiana is not bad over all. Northern does get colder over all. But they will start without block heater to down to -30 but does take a while to warm up like that. Did 0 when visiting sister in north of chicago and not plug in. No issue starting. Just takes a while to warm up. Warm up is really only going to happen if you drive in that cold of weather. As additive I run something with winter blend fuel. I myself use stanadyne year round. Never had a fuel gel or fuel filter freeze up yet. only once did i get a change fuel filter but it was cold out at the time. So possible fuel gelling in filter at the time. Filter was only 2000 miles old and when I did change at 7500 it was not completely plugged at the time. I double dose stanadyne in the winter. If gets down to zero.
O welcome and hope you get you duramax. You wont regret it.

thanks guys. and thanks brian because i think wen i do get ac diesel i will use fuel additives and change the filter alot on it. i change my oil on my truck every month. and the fuel filter every 2 months. so ill be good and the truck will sit high enough for me to not lift it. and duramaxx is the only diesel i will drive. i just hope i can get one a turbo diesel is what i want. sop hopefullly ill get one.
