I'm trying to replace the injectors in my 1998 6.5 TD. Am I going to have to remove the intake manifold & turbo? It seems like there's something I'm missing.

Thanks

I had to take off the turbo to get to the 4 on the right.

May also need to remove the pass side fender well.

Intake manifold can stay.

also remove wheel and place on jackstands. this is also helpful for starter work.

Took me an hour to get inner fender well out with airfilter and battery but makes it easy to reach everything and feel confident I was able to do a proper job on glows and injectors
Turbo has 4 nuts may be rusted be careful
Then a gasket on oil return
And pressure line is threaded in
Gm doesn't have a turbo to exhaust manifold gasket
Cummins has a gasket for it
Dodge dealer ask for 2003 up turbo to exhaust manifold gasket
It Is just a flat metal gasket
Heath supplies one with injectors (I hope you're using theirs it has the easy push on lock return hoses and the snap on socket)
I lost gasket

I removed nothing but the heat shield between the lines and the turbo. Did all eight in about 4 hrs.. One of the best suggestions that I can offer is to put down some kind of padding and lay across the top of the engine so that you are reaching down to access the things that need to be done on the passenger side.

Thanks for all the replies. I took the turbo off, I took the intake off just because Chilton's told me to, but it didn't gain me much. I could get a few lines out of the way more. I didn't take the inner fender off. The only time that would have helped much is taking the turbo off & when I put glow plugs in 6 & 8, but they weren't too bad.
Putting the intake on yesterday & noticed a copper washer under the truck. The blue smoke coming out of the shop wasn't diesel exhaust. I had to step away. I'm pretty sure it fell off of #2 or #4 when I was standing on my head to put them in. I'll find out tonight.
My hat's off to the guy that replaced them all with the turbo on. I had the truck dismantled & my hands still fell like I went through 15 rounds of boxing.

Chris K says that he can do it in an hour and a half. I would have to practice a lot to get it done that quick. Again, I removed nothing but the heat shield.
