Just got back in town and when the wife picked me up she said, "The truck is making a funny noise." So here is what's happenning. Whenever you decelerate or brake, there is a clacking sound coming from the transfer case. Occasionally it will dor it when accelerating, but will always do it when slowing down and get really bad when putting on the brakes. Haven't checked the fluid yet. Truck has ~59,000 miles. Any ideas?

Well, I just checked and changed the transfer case fluid and it was full and clean. Any ideas? Could it be a U-joint or carrier bearing with the noise travelling down the driveshaft and sounding like the case?

Sounds like a U-joint to me, crawl underthere for a quick check yourself. Use both hands close to the joint but on the driveshaft and try lifting up down or side to side. There should be ZERO play at any U-join or little to none at the carrier. Grab a flashlight while your at it to to do a visual check for crack or maybe their just that dry. When my T-case went out it made more of a growling sounds at highway speeds.

I'm betting on rear U-joint. Seen a few of them go out and make the same noise you are describing. Happened with my dads truck also.

Thanks. Will check it out. Funny thing is, I went through the car wash with it and it went away for a while and is slowly coming back.
