it may help the issue because without a lift pump pushing the fuel the cp3 prime pump is sucking the fuel meaning the lines are under a vacuum. meaning somehow the patch where the lift pump was may have sprung a leak allowing air to get into the system so that would be the first place i would check. now I'm not saying that reinstalling the lift pump will solve your problems but it most likely will but it is highly suggested to reinstall the lift pump to reduce the strain on the cp3

check the fuel filter for tightness and make sure its seals are correctly in place. also i would check the patch where the lift pump used to be

I would agree with dieseldemon,
Either the lift pump is bad or your sucking air. Make sure every line/fitting you touched is sealed and tight. Wouldn't hurt to check the filter either. After and only after that would I start looking at the primer pump.
Sounds like the primer is still working though, cause your getting fuel to the filter and out the bleeder screw.

Start checking the filter and all your connections and fuel lines.
If you have a hole in a line or a bad connection and it's sucking even a little air it will do that.
