I have a 2001 chevy 1500, the 4.3L v6 is just about to die. I have a 6.2 diesel from a mid 80s step van. I want to swap the diesel engine into the truck.
I would like to know if im correct on some of the knowlegde about the 6.2, the first thing is bell housing pattern the same?
And from what im told, the motor mounts are the same as well.

Can i make it work without breaking the bank?
In case it makes a difference, i am a mechanically inclined person.
And is there anything else i should reseach about this swap?

Sounds like a pretty cool project. What RPM is your 4.3 spinning when going down the highway? You may have to throw in a taller set of gears to lower the rpm some.

Another bit to investigate is how the extra weight will affect your ride height.

I imagine the 6.2 is the same bell housing pattern. 6.2 = 5.7 5.7 = 4.3 = > 6.2 = 4.3

I am pretty sure the 4.3 bellhousing pattern is different than the v8 platform. I know one block is a 90degree design block and bellhousing while the other is a 60degree designed block and bellhousing, but forget which, I would imagine the v8 is the 90degree pattern.

well everything should bolt up i think....unless they changed the 4.3 at some point, i have a 700r4 from a 85 4.3 astro behind my 70s era sbc 400 right now.....no issues on the bolt pattern.

The thing is the throttle position sensor for the 4L60e

also i noticed my 93 must have had several sensors going to the tranny controller....like a seperate coolant sensor for the tranny or something....dont quote me on that but it did have wiring from engine sensors that went to the tranny controller. The engine also had sensors going to the dash gauges or something, it was a differnt harness all together. This was a 6.5 with 4L80e so that it might be totally different..

But thats the questions i would want answered.
