I, picking up my new 4,500 truck monday. Im new to chevy diesel performance. Are the best first mods like my powerstroke(tuner, intake, exhaust and gauges)? i pull a 53' trailer with 2 race cars, pit box and all the misc stuff. Are there any items that need to be addreesed to make the truck last modded and towing all the time. Last but where can i get the mods i mentioned at the top. Sorry for the newbie Q

Thanks

Hi Latemodelracer2,

Welcome to The DP Medium Duty forum! :D

Not sure how much you have checked for mods. There are a few advertised mods out there but not alot. I just orded an Edge Juice w/ Attitide.

Read through the forum Q's in this area. A few folks have done some performance mods. All of us are looking.

Post a pick of your rig.

Thanks man, ill post pics moday when i pick her up. So far what id like to add are

tuner/chip
open intake if possible?
exhaust
egt gauge
boost gauge
maybee replace stock tranny temp gauge to match other aftermarket gauges

Also i noticed that on the pass side the intercooler pipe has a kink in the bend from the factory is there an aftermarket pipe to replace this one?

BTW is there any cheap easy mods to do that will pass me by like the 10k mod for a powerstroke?
First chevy diesel for me after having a 99, 00 02 and 04 f350 powerstroke i still have my 99 though.

If you get the Edge/Juice with Attitude perf. module, it comes with a monitor for your boost and egt readings. So it's not necessary to buy the gauges. Great service from

latemodelracer2,

I cancelled my order on the edge/juice attitude and instead purchased the Xelerator from PPE. Their programmer is nice. The best is that it removed the speed limiter. They are also this week working on a 4" exhaust. That will be my next mod.

The programmer really woke the truck up. Much more responsive, especially off the start. The air intake is pretty large. I don't know what to do unless we could find a K&N filter. I have a tranny guage and a pyrometer already. On level 2, the temps stay within the safe range. I am towing my 40' 5'er this weekend up to about 9,000 feet elevation so I'll see how it does with temps and programmer.

53'er, wow, that is long. :exactly: You will have to load it up with all the "stuff" and run it across a scale.

sounds good man who is ppe and how do i buy from them. Also what is the limiter set on stock? my truck was running 75 all the way to the race the other day but could use some more go go. Also could the stock tranny temp gauge be replaced with a autometer gauge if i add a matching autometer egt gauge or what gauge will match the one in there. One last thing does the air bag dump option only work when the truck is on for like hooking up a trailer or something? Also if i leave the compressor on will it kick on and off when it needs to going down the road. One last thing who sells a turbo timer for these trucks. Reson being is when my guys drive it they are bad to drive for 2-4 hours and not let it cool off. So id like to make it do that for them.

Love the truck so far pulls the trailer like no tomorow (kills a f350 like im use to towing with)just needs a little more power but itll be fixed thanks to a xelerator

Lins are welcome new to chevy diesel perf .

Here is a link to Pacific http://www.pacificp.com/cgi-bin/cat/xceleratorlly.html

Give them a call and ask for Dan. He can probably fix you up with the other stuff you need. I got the EGT guage from them. I had a lot of running around town today and went about 40 miles or so with lots of stop and go. The truck performs like a different truck. Much better now....

Late Model Racer, I read your comment on how the 4500 needs more pull. I was complaining about my first ride in my new 5500 (same truck) and I have only drove it to the upfitters and thought that this truck is a fat cow. Please post about the mods if you go with a chip and what not, I am interested to know how much these mods help. I am use to 358 CI performance and don't know if I can take so much long time response! Also wondered if you are aware of Red Devil Brakes for you racer? Check out reddevilbrakes.com If you do, also check out street performance and you will see my Impala SS in one of the shots. We are working on rotors for medium duty truck right now.

Staying with my Edge Juice w/ Attitude. Love all the monitoring features and shift levels on the fly. I wrote K&N last month about a air filter. They wrote me back stating they only make filters up to 3500 and have no plans to make filters for larger trucks. Bummer. Good Luck on your mods. John
