Do I need to replace the vacuum pump or can I just remove it?

I'm guessing you are talking about the 3500 in your sig.

Since that is a 3500 it shouldn't have an EGR. You can check this by looking for a huge egr ontop of intake or looking at 8th digit of vin. If it is "F" then you dont' have an EGR.

Also. If you still have the stock wastegate actuator then yes you need the vacuum pump on. But if you make your own spring wastegate or buy a TurboMaster from www.heathdiesel.com and install then you can scrap the vacuum pump.

If you go the TurboMaster or homemade TurboMaster route you will want to have a boost guage installed as well.

After vacuum pump removal you will also want a 99.5" belt to put on.

I think that is everything... lol.

The vacuum pump only runs the wastegate on the turbo. You can remove it but you need a mechanical wastegate actuator. A turbo master or you can make one. Search home made turbomaster. But you should have a boost guage if you make a mechanical system, as the engine no longer regulates the pressure, you set it to a certain amount. A boost guage is a safety thing, keeps you from blowing a head gasket... Cant go any over 9psi WOT stock (without a chip).

The truck and vin is as follows, I just bought it for $2850.

1gdjc34f1vf041250
So lets see, the 8th digit is:
1gdjc34f although from the right side vf041250 it is a v.
Which side are you counting from?

Thanks,

You read it left to right, like a book.... WOW that build sheet is nasty!!! I need to do that with my vin....

what do you mean about the build sheet and vin check, I thought it looked clean with low miles. It is a basic work truck. Although I wasn't sure why they replaced the injector pump all the time, 32k, 42k and again at 59k. I though about adding a heat sink to the injector pump controller. Also I member did a car fax report for me free in the vin check area.

Where is the controller mounted ( you are talking about PMD/FSD right)?

It was mounted on the injector pump in a hot area. The heat sink kit came with a pigtail(wire + connectors) to remote mount it and added the heat sink.

I found one but not sure it is the exact one, but it was like it. He said he used the original PMD.

The way the previous comment was worded, it sounded like it was mounted externally without heat sink.

Thanks.

The vacuum pump only runs the wastegate on the turbo. You can remove it but you need a mechanical wastegate actuator. A turbo master or you can make one.

Yes and no, half true...

On an F (L65) engine, then yes the vac pump's sole purpose is to control the wastegate, and a turbomaster is a cheap alternative although yes you need a boost gauge.

Now for the no part, if it was an S (L56) engine, then the vac pump controls the wastegate, AND the EGR system, So eliminating the vac pump on the S Vin trucks is a bit harder to do then with the F vin trucks.

If someone with an S vin truck wanted to ditch the vac pump, they would also need to adress the EGR system (Frost plug or block off plate)

But his truck IS an F vin, so that doesn't apply, but it may to others. More of an FYI then an answer to the original post.

Edit: Pyro is short for Pyrometer, it's also a gauge that measures the engines exhaust gas temperature, so you don't end up melting things... Like pistons...
