When I picked up my 05 LLY my first stop was my buddy Joe's to take him for a spin. Two weeks later, he traded his 7.3psd for a Duramax:ro) . So I take it to another buddies house. He has a 01 Duramax. His brother happens to be there. Three days later...his brother has a Duramax:ro) ! I got most of my mods done and took it to another buddies house. He is a huge FORD guy. Guess who pulled in last night with a new Diesel:eek:? You guessed it. Only problem is. Sucker bought a -:t6.0 PSD-:t. Ohh well. He will have to learn the hard way. First thing he says, " I gotta get me some goodies on this like you have." I shook my head:badidea: "no". Told him he will have plenty of problems without mods. He don't need to complicate it yet by adding mods. Then I told him he shouldn't worry...all our friends have Duramaxes:ro) so he has plenty of vehicles at this disposal to tow him home!!

If you have a gasser you might want to think twice before riding in a new Duramax:ro) . It will cost you dearly!! Just ask my buddies!!!):h

I deserve some commission from GM as well. I've sold probably 6-8 Duramax's myself with nothing more then a ride.

GM has 24 hour test drives as well http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gifHaHa I am in GA around ATL. I have had a new 1994 Chevy 4x4 extended cab Z71 and bought a new 2001 GMC 4x4 extended cab Z71. I want my next truck to be a diesel. I am a GM man to the core. I am a big Corvette lover and have two and have a 20' trailer that I pull. I will have to admit however that I like the way the Ford Super Duty looks better than the GM 2500/3500s. I even went and drove one the other day and really liked it. The options that Fords have are much more extensive than GM offerings such as power rear window, big wheels, brake controller, etc. The biggest problem I have with the GM trucks is the interior. They are basically the same as the truck I now own which I think is too small. The Ford Super Dutys are totally different trucks from the F150 (which I can't stand.) I am one of those people that research stuff to death before I buy. I have been reading this forum as well as the dieselstop.com. Both have been very informative. From what I am reading, I think I will be waiting until 2007 when the new trucks come out. I hope GM takes a page from Ford (and improves on it) and makes the 2500/3500 more truck and less car and the 1500 more car and less truck. I really don't want to go over to the dark (blue) side. From what I am reading on the dieselstop.com the Ford engines are good but have many electrical problems as well as some leaks. My only experience with Ford was a 1999 Expidition bought because of looks (my wife and I thought it looked better than the Tahoe.) This vehicle was in the shop with different electrical problems about 10 times. We had to have it towed twice when it wouldn't start. It was the first time we leased a vehicle and we were glad we did so we could easlily get rid of it after two years. I am really interested in the 6 speed Allison and what kind of milage it will get. I really want to stick with GM, my current truck runs great so I will probably keep it until I see what the 2007s look like. By the way excuse my diesel ignorance but, what is a REFLASH?

Its a blueprint on how to run electronics/diagnostics and fuel management.

It sounds to me like you need to go get yourself a ford, this is a GM fan based forum. Not staring sh$t but if your looking for a ford enthusiast, you won't find one around here. Good luck, though.

My neighbor bought a brand new gmc 6.0 gasser that the dealer had a shop put a lift on it, I came home 2 days later with a nearly identical truck except mine is diesel of coarse. =) Just the sight of one of these trucks got me interested, once i drove a dmax it was all over!!!

Quit taking people for rides. Too much demand for diesel is driving the prices up Censored and once folks get the taste of it they can't go back.
On the flip side is that as more people buy diesels the aftermarket has an incentive to make better upgrades which is a good thing:ro).
decisions decisions. must compute....
OK the equation comes down on favor of more and better performance mods.. so keep taking guys on rides.

Hey pal, lighten up. I am a member of the ZO6vette.com and realize that when someone makes their first post people are suspect. I assure you I am not trying to start anything. I am just trying to educate myself before making a $45,000 purchase. I do want to stick with GM as I am a GM based fan.

That's what happened to me. I had test drove the Ford and Dodge diesels in the past and was never impressed with their unloaded performance, ride quality and creature comforts. Almost killed myself test driving a Dodge. The roads were slightly wet, coming up on a light that turned yellow while I still had plenty of time to stop. Stepped on the brakes, front tires lock up and it slides right through the intersection. All that mass in the front just kept on moving. Had to completely let up and reapply them. By then I was on the other side of the intersection. Had to go real easy on the brakes to keep them from locking up. Scared me and the wife enough we avoided the diesels for several years.

Drove the LLY last summer and fell in love. Loved the interior and the performance. As far as riding like a truck, I kind of like the soft ride compared to the others.

A ride did it for me, took a ride in a CC Dmax hauling a load on a gnarly dirt mountain road. I ordered mine a week later, dang, talk about an upgrade. . .I went from a gutless '86 Landcruiser wagon to one of these. Still having a tough time adapting to backing up with just a utility trailer. No problem with the Landcruiser, had great visibility.

It is the exhaust smell that gets them. That is what it was for me. I had a '97 Ford P/S extended cab short. It rode like a forklift. Not to mention some expensive problems all before 60,000 miles.

I traded it off asap and got a Toyota Tundra. (used of course. buddy works at a dealer. got me a sweet deal on the Toyota) But I longed for another diesel. Started looking but not really serious when I found my "used" 2005 sitting on the lot. I bought it just before Thanksgiving. It had 2080 miles on it.

Drove the Toyota for a little over a year. Very nice truck but there is no substitute for a good 'ole, big American made truck.

The options that Fords have are much more extensive than GM offerings such as power rear window, big wheels, brake controller, etc.Hum...I was able to get a power sliding rear window as an option in the crew cab on Chevy and GM 2500HD...

And, if you want to "fix" the looks of the GM 2500/3500's, just get rid of the 245's on them. You can easily make the GM's look as much of a "truck" as the Ford's, I think, by putting 285's on them and some different rims. Cost me $1800 for 285's, new 16" rims, diamond plate rails, step bars, and bed mat from the dealer.

Thanks. They are <a href="http://www.ultrawheel.com/wheel_detail.cfm?brand=1&id=96">Ultra Stargazer</a> 16" x 8" wheels with <a href="http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tireselector/index_bs.asp?pagesource=searchbyproduct">Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo</a> 285/75/R16 tires.

Shrug, didn't spend too much time picking them out (they were one of the options from the dealer for $1299 swap).

That, my friend, is a good looking truck!:beerchug: The more I compare the info on this site to the dieselstop.com the more I think I need to stick with GM. I see people on this site with problems, which can be expected with a mass produced vehicle. However, I think there is a much greater percentage of posts about problems on the dieselstop. I've always wanted the biggest truck I could get. I'd buy a Kenworth if I had a place to park it. I appreciate all the info on this site, thanks guys.
