Just returned from a 2k mile trip to Mo. I checked the oil about half way home and I noticed the black insulation has a big chunk missing. It is just to the right of the turbo. Anyone know how or why it might be missing ??

You may have a nest under the hood that has been there a day or two. I lost half of mine to mice, even had one climb up on the wiper as I was driving down the highway.

I also suffer from a partly missing insulation. I do believe mice are the cause of mine. The next day I spent quite a bit of money on poison. Sure did piss me off. Does anyone know what the part number is for a new one and how hard it is to replace.

Thanks guys, I have looked all over this bad boy and did not find any rodents. Will I have any problems with this insulation missing ???

I had the same problem, thought it was a cat, turned out to be squirrels tearing it up I think. Bought some black duct tape and wrapped the edge so I couldn't see the yellow insulation is about all I could do. The dealer wouldn't touch it.

I had some furry woodland creatures tearing at mine too. Fenced up my Jack Russell Terrier next to the truck during the day for a couple days. She knew exactly what to do with the furry woodland creatures. Haven't had any more get in since that bunch.

I have the same thing, firewall insulation missing. Asked about it on a previous post and the comments were that it was being 'blown' away by hot gassess. I have had several instances of very high engine temps while towing up a mountain.

If you have experienced high turbo or engine temps, maybe that's the cause.

I don't really know what casued mine.

UBEC = Underhood Body Electrical Center

Basically the fuse block for the non-lingo oriented.

Part of driver side insulation was missing. Took to dealer for replacement, they claimed it was rodent damage. Would not fix. They said it should not cause any problems. Estimated about $400 to replace. Said they would have to disconnect all lines to replace total insulation on firewall. I put some rat bait around truck front tires and next to the garage wall. Rat bait gone, no more insulation missing. Also have red tree squirrels around that get apples, peaches, cherries from my trees, they may also been to blame.

I'm going to check my firewall insulation tonight when I get home just in case! I don't want Mama JJ freaking out if a little critter pops its head up at the wrong time. JJ :)
