Hello .. I have a "Mint Condition"1977 Wanderlodge RV by BlueBird (25,000lbs)w/reman 3208NA-210hp Cat w/less than 20,000 miles. I'm constantly told not to add a turbo, and to buy/install another new motor except turbo-charged 250hp. Actually whats different parts wise - na vs turbo? Why can't I add a turbo w/intercooler and increase fuel guided by a pyrometer? My past exerience w/Cat injectors were w/changeable nozzles, w/Cummins I upped the fuel pressure. I'm not wanting rocket power just a more responsive travel plan! This motor has 636ci and only 210hp. I'm considering installing a turbo between the y-pipe and muffler and returning the oil electrically due to the low mounting location. I'll be running 1 or 2 intercoolers, huge engine oil cooler, huge transmission cooler, and a 2 speed rear axle assembly. Does this sound within reason and any input is appreciated "for or against" and why? I've made a nice 4" exhaust system designed to add a turbo (Air Research Models # T18A40 or Th08A64) and have several to choose from. I'm in need of a knowledgeable experienced mechanic w/Cat background to help guide my attempt, if possible. Thanks for any and all help Gary.:grd:

Well, If your engine is equipped with piston sray jets (some werent) you should be alright. Cranks are the same, and rods are too. Pistons should be a higher compression with the N/A engine, but watch the pyro you should be fine.

Hello Ben ... Could you tell me the differences between the injectors & injector pump? Thanks for the input! I've been running a Turbo Volvo gas motor since new in 1982. I've increased power every couple of years from 130hp to 275hp. Started w/ 6 lbs boost and now run 20# safely, so I've learned a lot about combustion temps and adding fuel. 200,000 miles and just freshened the motor checking for any damage. No damage from over 185K at 14#. I curious about the difference in injectors and pumps! Thanks Gary

remeber M&W Gear used to make what they called normalizing kits, for higher alt's, and also for marine applications(single and dual turbo if i remember). the manifold flange for cat unit used to crack(thin). cat dosen't like to give out fuel pump info, if you can find good tech might be able to tell what parts and setting, just make sure have guages to watch, cat used to have kit for turbo conversion also, early 80's. ran boats that builder if i right used larger jerk pumps and nozzles with single factory turbo(lots of smoke, fried turbos) thats when looked into M&W, their aftercooler was better also like vortech inline unit(cat unit copper radiator inside chamber, over waves, bounce - break off, through turbo before lockup). hope this helps you
peninsular diesel (cat) out of miami i think used to do changes for the boat engines.

What is the serial and arrangement number on the original engine you have now?
Depending on the piston that is installed and if it has spray tubes or not will make a difference.
If you will watch the egt and install an air to air you should be fine using the turbo.
The turbo'ed 250 hp had a different nozzle setup than the older na units.
Cat had to install the the turbo and different nozzles to stay up with the EPA game, it was not just for more power.
Send me the info from your current engine and I can research it for you.
