Does any one have a new 08/09 2500 HD? How is the motor performing? Gas mileage? Any issues or concerns? Thanks for the input.:D

I am assuming you mean the 6.0L Vortec Gas Engine?
if so check this post. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305589&highlight=mileage
Or goto the main of this topic and use the search this forum of Gasser and use ' mileage ' as search term for more. Also seen you asked this before and similiar on LMM. Which are you looking at?

Well I am not 100% sure yet, I am not a camper and don't plan on pulling a camper. I own a construction company and have a 14 foot work trailer that I pull every other day. I love what the diesel has to offer but I like the price of a new gasser too. I am also considering a 1-2 yr old diesel instead of a new truck, never owned a new one and would like to but will also sacrifice new gasser for a diesel that someone bought and didn't want. So this is my dilemma........what would you do??

Both get same mileage it seems

Personally without the BBC anymore Id get the older diesel. '06 classic or whatever. They all are good and all have minor inherent problems.

If you get a used 8.1L you will get about same mileage towing as the new diesels. I tow everyday 18' enclosed trailer for construction. Mileage sucks but so does LMM from what Im hearing.

Yes, but the older 07 and before (not 07.5) will get much better mileage than the LMMs.

The Dmax will out perform any gasser in all areas; towing, mpg, longevity and power & performance.

If you plan on having the truck for awhile you would be best off in a Dmax and the resale value holds very strong compaired too a gasser.

Oh btw. I let a buddy use mine to tow his 20ft ski boat the other weekend and he cruised at 80mph with alot of passing(I had a +150/300 tune in) and got 17mpg, I don't know of any gasser able to perform like that..

My dad has a 08 6.0 gasser and gets around 11-12 normal driving and doesnt even check it with a 5000lb load but he said probably about 8 or so. About the same as the 04 6.0 gasser I had.

There is no comparing diesel to gas oeriod. We owned gas truck for years to pull the horses. The 8.1 is a good motor but towing an MPG can't even compare to an LB7. If you pull at all or do alot of highway driving and want to keep your truck forever then diesel is the way to go.

How a mod will tell someone an 8.1 get's the same mileage as a D-Max is beyond me. Even an LMM will deliver better mileage and much more pullin power than the 8.1.

x2..... i know plenty of people with diesels of all sorts so i know how much "better" diesels really are.

thats all i'm gonna say as i dont want to help get off track from the OP like the 8.1 thread started to do.

as far as the original question from what i've heard the 6.0 gets 11-12 mpgs which is no better than the 8.1 but with less power so if it was me i'd stick with an 07 or older 8.1 or dmax if you do much towing.

It's called EFI-Live w/over over a decade in building, tuning, racing and re-building turbo application experience..

The best I got last summer was 26.4mpg, on country highway..

The 'Hot tune' I built and have been running awhile, I've been getting 18-19mpg in the city..

Knowledge and experince can't be short-cut.. Only built through time.

If you want a few tips just PM me..

id go with a new gas truck. You can get much better financing rates, and a better deal.Used diesels are often run hard or modifed, and unreliable down the road as a result,I'd stay away unless you know the trucks history. As for the gasser, the warranty and power will be fine.A 14ft trailer isnt very big, well within a 6.0 gassers capabilitys. The only exception would be if your towing over 10K,and all highway, then id get a used diesel. For stop and go,in town ,and mixed driving, you should be fine withj the 6.0 gasser.

I'd have to agree, I see the b u l l s h i t flag flying high here! I have had three duramaxes, none of them ever got better than 12 or 13 while towing my small enclosed aluminum trailer.

My 8.1 is tuned and I get 13-14mpg at 65mph unloaded. When I hook up my 9000lb travel trailer, I can still run 65mph no problem, but I get 7-8mpg. Diesel is definately better for pulling heavy loads, but otherwise I would take a gas motor for many reasons.
I have not personally towed with a 6.0, but from what I've heard others say, its a WHEEZER and not comparable to the 8.1 or diesel.

Hope that helps!

2007 classic is the last truck to come with an optional 8.1L. The 2008+ are either a 6.0 or a diesel.
