I have A purchased air intake kit on one of my 6.5's , and after brainstorming the other night , I decided to try to build my own . I measured the opening on the stock intake boot , went to Advance Auto and opened every K & N filter their is and found one that would work . # 1009 . Cut a piece of 3" pvc to fit just inside the filter , slide the filter in the boot , re shape your existing clamp and tighten up . It works well . For extra protection I used a slim bead of silicone as a seal that is easily replaced when you clean your filter . I have about $45.00 in it and my second attempt took only about 15 minutes including removing the stock airbox . I am going to do it to my other two trucks soon . I am an off road racer so as added protection i ordered a foam bootie from my local honda shop for dusty conditions . If any one wants pics I will post them . This was just my way of performance upgrades on a budget .

Pictures?
I'd like a foam boot on my filter. What did that cost?

That's the spirit. Keep the innovations comming. Pretty soon we'll all have wicked trucks without having to sell our first born to afford it!

Box it off from hot underhood air and you have something, it is in the hottest spot in there right next to the turbo. Otherwise yank the snorkel and seal the box to the fender. I have a 6" x 9" k&n that I put on like greg did but used an abs sh!tter pipe 90° and put the filter in between the bat and the coolant resivoir. Lots of air and great when it was cool out but in summer you will understand how this is a leathal combo to a turbo charged NON-intercooled diesel sporting compression over 20:1. Defuelling does suck but not as much as cooking head gaskets.

Ok , I'm not the smartest computer guy . How do I attach the picture i took for you guys ? Also , I do have a shroud designed for this which is being built as we speak . You guys will think I'm nuts , but I am a landscaper , so I have got a bunch of huge poly tubs that large trees come in and I'm cutting one down to fit the arch of the wheel well and the curve fits nicely from the air inlet in the fender to the battery . It takes patience , but I will get you a picture of that also . My thinking is that I won't use it in cooler weather , but then can easily put the cover on in warmer temps .

2 questions. is there any room behind the bumper? pouring rain here right now. i heard you can use a piece of pantyhose for a good filter sock, true?

We actually have done that in a pinch when racing motocross , so I don't see why not . I have a foam sock coming and as soon as I get it I'll let you guys know who makes it and how much .
