: what gets the wax off plastic???
freewayrandy 04-30-2005, 08:41 AM Hope this doesn't make it sound like I was born yesterday, but, frustration has won over embarassment. I've tried several products to no avail to get the wax off the black plastic trim on my ride. What the h#$$ works for y'all??? The last ride I ever waxed this much was my '69 Z-28, it didn't have plastic on it.
Thanks.
gtchief 04-30-2005, 11:14 AM Power wash it off, get right on top is it and try not to hit the rest of the truck. This is what I did on my blazer.
chipper 04-30-2005, 12:13 PM "Prep-Sol", silicon wax remover used by auto paint shops comes in Qt can.
CrazyDaze 04-30-2005, 12:15 PM I just use an old toothbrush and scrub it off on the next wash!
Bronco 04-30-2005, 12:27 PM I have alot of chemicals at my disposal. Out of all that I tried, straight laquer thinner on a rag worked the best.
I am sure that the product (prep-sol) mentioned earlier works better though.
partsguy662 04-30-2005, 12:32 PM or, reach in the cupboard, grab a jar of peanut butter...put some on the wax..let it sit for a minute or two....wipe off.. :)

I knew peantur butter worked wonders on chewing gum in hair but wax removal?
Wonder if biodiesel would work?
dozerboy 04-30-2005, 04:16 PM I would be a little worried about the straight lacquer thinner. I used Mineral ... Sprits or something like that to as a good paint safe cleaner when I built houses.

You build the houses, I paint the houses. ;)
It takes along time to learn what chemicals will ruin or clean which surfaces.
Acetone, Alchohol,Mineral spirits,Paint thinner, M.E.K., Laquer thinner.
You just have to know what goes with what. One wrong move and melt down.
Beleive it or not you can take a rag soaked with laquer thinner and rub it all over your trucks clear coat.

TheBac 04-30-2005, 09:12 PM While we're on the subject, what would you use to take highway line paint off the plastic wheel wells and fender flares?
Frank Blum 04-30-2005, 09:50 PM I try WD-40 on everything first and then go from there. I got real tired of the wax getting on the textured flares and rock guards. I use wash and wax and Eagle 1 Wax As U Dry. Later! Frank
BigRedD/A 05-01-2005, 07:13 AM mothers back to black and an old tooth brush, never fails!

Same here Mothers BTB works everytime. Also restores the dull weathered finish on black plastic bumper and door/tailgate trim pieces to new looking condition.
freewayrandy 05-01-2005, 08:02 AM Wow! Lot's of ideas to try, Thanks Gents!
BlueOx03 05-01-2005, 12:25 PM sand and paint it, them you'll want to wax it....

Black Dog 05-01-2005, 06:27 PM A white "Magic Rub" eraser also takes the wax right off.
