Stock is closer to 5 inch backspacing. You want 4.5 because if you lift it later you need that to clear the lift knuckles. Bolt pattern is 8x6.5 gm, dodge and older ford. Newer ford is 8x170 because they figured why just slap a crappy motor and trans in there, why not make everything else worse too?

what about 6 inches of backspacing? would that work?

6 would hit your stock knuckle probably unless it has some wierd offset to it. They would be tucked way in under the truck unless they were really wide. You damn sure better not buy some off ebay and hope they work, test fit some first and make sure.

Usually the only ones you see with that much backspacing are 20s or big rims like that. Those might be ok because then the rim would be outside the knuckle and it would clear it.

well my truck had a 6inch lift on it when I got it and it has 305 70 r16's on the stock rims and I wanted to know what backspacing I needed to get a set of 315 75 r16's to stick out just enough to give it that tough look......

Cool, you must have a drop bracket lift or a one of the knuckle kits with the more angled knuckle since the stock wheels fit. Get 4.5 inch backspacing wheels and they will stick out pretty far, a couple inchs of tire will be outside the flare. Since you have one of the lifts that fits stock wheels you can probably get away with a wheel with more backspacing, depends how far in you want it. If you have a friendly tire shop you might test fit a couple and see what you end up with. I know a couple guys on here are running lifts with wheels with 5 inch backspacing and they are wide enough to look good still. Tophog's truck has close to a 5 inch backspacing I think, and he stick out a bit still, not like a truck with 4.5 backspacing though.

Do you know if the new dodge 1 ton rims will fit on the GM 1 tons? Just wondering if that would be one way to get rid of the steel stockers.

Bolt pattern is the same but the center bore is bigger on the dodges so if you put it on your truck it wouldn't be hub centric. Personally I wouldn't like having the studs hold all the weight on my truck. You can buy some pretty heavy rated aftermarket wheels, depends how much you want to spend. A good forged wheel like a Weld is pretty expensive but you know it would be heavy enough. Most cast wheels have a load rating that is at least what the tires are anyway, so they are probably fine. I thought about getting some of these and using my stock nuts and center caps. They are fairly cheap and that works good because so am I.

Thanx for the answer, I may just put some simulators on as cost is a factor and I haul some heavy loads and don't want to lose any capacity.

Nar, it is a drop bracket lift thats why I was not sure when I heard that you could not use stock rims on a 6inch lift but thanks for the info and those are awsome rims for the price I would get a set if I were you and if you do send me a pic.....
