Do the used trucks depreciate as soon as the new model year comes out? The 02 and 03's are a little high for me right now. I plan on buying one outright, i.e...no paymnents. I am currently pretty much debt free and want to stay that way with the exception of my wife's Avalanche and the new house that I hopefully plan to build. Should be ready to buy in August and was hoping the prices would come down about the time the 06s come out. I have tried searches on the internet with no luck. Thanks.

Look at it this way.................

If a truck today lists for 50k, forget what it sells for. In two years with 50k miles it will be worth about 50% of "list" price. So, that means an 03 that listed for 48k and sold for about 43k would cost about 24k in todays market. Most prices will be higher than that..... I'm just going off what those folks "might" get on trade-in. -:t

Money talks! show a little green in the amount you want to pay for it... As you refold you wad, the seller will most of the time fold as well.

Good luck!

IMHO the prices do come down each time a new model year comes out. Doesn't matter if you bought your truck at the beginning or end of the model year it is usually still a specific model year. Exceptions being new versions during a model year like the 04.5 LLY's. ;)

It is surprising how well these trucks are holding their values. You might shop on eBay, lots of vehicles get sold on the website. Many dealers are selling on eBay as well. Good luck. JJ :)

You are probably looking at a depreciation cost of 6 to 7 thousand dollars a year, the first bite comming as soon as you sign the purchase paper on a new unit. A few dollars plus or minus based on condition and mileage. Sort of funny here as I well remember when today's annual depreciation amount would have bought you 4 brand new Chev or GMC pickups. (Only difficulty was that a 6K annual job a pretty good one)

........Tom, that's trade-in value. You can add about 15% to that for your truck.
