I have question that was brought up to me today by a Tech at my local dealer. I was asking him if I was using a good additive would it keep the rust out of the bottom of the fuel filter. He turned to me and said "what do you think those additives are going to eat up that rust and stuff that comes out of the service stations tanks and digest it into clean fuel?" He informed me that that was the reason for the fuel filter to catch that stuff. I had never really thought about that until now. I keep seeing people posting that if you use Blank Blank Blank additive there will be no rust or water in your fuel filter. Now he got me thinking were does that water and rust go if I use the additives?:help2:

There are demulsifiers and emulsifiers. Demulsifiers make the water form larger drops and stay together so they can be removed by the water seperator. Emulsifiers break down the water so it mixes with the fuel and allows the water to bypass the seperator. GM only recommends demulsifier additives. If you are pumping rust and water into the tank then the filter should catch it. That's why people are adding secondary filters. The best defense is to change fuel filters often.
