: New Transfercase Brace from Suncoast
Mike L. 04-29-2005, 02:43 PM Joe Webb at Suncoast just showed me some pictures of his new brace to support adapter housing and transfercase.. Adapter is known for breaking under 4X4 launches . I like what I see and have ordered a bunch to retro all the Allys I have done. I think all 4X4s need them. A weak u joint can vibrate enough to cause housing to crack. Joe will be posting pictures here very soon. I have been told that the brace is in production now and will be ready in about a week.

Mike!!!
I will be making a trip to come see you soon then!
Mike L. 04-29-2005, 02:51 PM I will give this a try.
McRat 04-29-2005, 03:24 PM Might be a very good mod for sled pulling too.
Burner 04-29-2005, 03:36 PM Sounds like good insurance if you work your truck pretty hard. ;) :D
Could be one of those "why not" parts. If it helps and doesn't hurt, it's an easy call.
.. Who's this Joe guy anyway? ):h
Trippin 04-29-2005, 04:42 PM Is it here yet? :bounce:
smoop 04-29-2005, 05:27 PM Hey guys,
There were numerous designs before we had one that would work and be easy to install.
The installation can be done in minutes. It will not be necessary to remove any parts to install bracket. Remove 6 bolts, disconnect TC vacuum hose, slide bracket into place, install bolts, torque to 45#, reroute and connect vacuum hose. Your done.:grd:
I have not recieved the quotes from the powder coater, but it looks like the price should be between $190.00- $200.00 before powder coating.
We havn't settled on the name yet. So far we have "jock strap", "Maxi bracket with wings prevents leaks" but I,m sure some sick and devious minds can come up with something.
Allison has strengthend the latest hsg with taller ribs, but I don't think it will prevent cracking if a u-jt fails or you get wheel hop. This will retro to all 4x4 year models, including 05.

Bodysurfer 04-29-2005, 06:48 PM Looks very good. Time to get the wallet out:ro)
LATER!
Got Juice? 04-29-2005, 06:53 PM How about calling it a Transmission 'Girdle?'
Allison is a she after all
StraitDiesel 04-29-2005, 07:43 PM That's a good one juice! I like it!

_nar_ 04-29-2005, 08:41 PM I am surprised if they are prone to cracking under hard launching that somebody like tomac or juice hasn't broken one. I suppose if it got cracked and you didn't notice that sometime you'd get on it hard and the transfer case would just fall off eh? Shatter the adapter?

Yet:rolleyes:
tophog 04-29-2005, 09:05 PM Looks nice ... Now all we need is someone to manufacture some nice driveline loops.
dmaxalliTech 04-29-2005, 09:33 PM That bracket will work great. I know of at least 6-8 trucks that will get one with out even thinking... and I dont do that anyways.
mrmagu 04-29-2005, 09:42 PM I cannot believe that I was at Mike's shop today trying my darndest to give him some money and he didn't even hint at these.. All he sold me was a cooler. Hey Mike, put me down for two...

Mike L. 04-29-2005, 10:40 PM Frank
I forgot.  Guess I was too busy telling you my life story. ):h
Mike L. 04-29-2005, 11:17 PM nar
Tomac has broken one and Juice ( as usual ) is held to secrecy. If you look at the drivetrain ( Ally and transfercase ) it is very long. Rule of thumb is, if you want to break something, make it longer. Look at the mounting of the drivetrain; transfercase has no crossmember, it hangs off the back of the Ally, which is supported by a mount on its own crossmember. IMHO this brace will work and I am buying one for myself.

 ):h :D
Mackin 04-30-2005, 06:10 AM Where does it break exactly? The T-case adapter or further forward or the actual T-case?
Never paid much attention as I thought and only heard of this happening To MikeT.
Burner 04-30-2005, 06:40 AM How about the Webb Brace. Wouldn't that kind'a describe that part and what it does? :)
Got Juice? 04-30-2005, 05:40 PM OMG, only 6 bolts, will we have to use the ones that come with the kit?:ro) or can we reuse old torque convertor bolts?
mrmagu 04-30-2005, 05:51 PM Mike,
As anyone who has been at your shop for more that 15 minutes can vouch for, I have heard your life story. Only thing I don't understand is for the six times I have been there you have had six different lives......at least, six different stories
gtmax 04-30-2005, 05:59 PM Mackin - I've seen one, it cracked at the extension housing where the webs meet the trans mounting pad. This is where the C5 piston resides--you'll know it's cracked when tranny fluid leaks out the casting.
The Suncoast support which I would suggest simply calling "max transfer case support" should tie the unit together and prevent flex and eliminate breakage.

So I guess it's the Ext Adapter that actually breaks, thanks.

Or it will crack slightly on the TCase snout.

Admit it. You would never come back to my shop if I told you the same story over and over. You come here only to hear my next stupid story. You enjoy the BS. ):h

McRat 04-30-2005, 11:38 PM Looks ALOT like a gadget we run on the Vette to stop trans case/rear case fractures.
So far, we haven't busted cases related to rotation.
I think I'm going to run one when I get my trans freshened up.
McRat 04-30-2005, 11:41 PM Question:
Doesn't appear to be adjustable. Is it made "pre-loaded" (short) from the factory?

Reminds me of the Vette brace as well. I think it could use some heims for adjustability.
Burner 05-01-2005, 03:32 PM Rut-roe........ Tripp and Rat on the same project. Looks like we'll have new Trippinized "RAT" Racing bracket. ):h :ro)
kbstinky 05-01-2005, 07:56 PM Since I do not race/abuse this piece of steel, would this bracket be advisable for those of us that tow a heavy load.
Is it possible to crack the case towing???/

You do not need this brace, unless of course you feel you can't live without it. ):h I'm going to sell you something Mr. IRS impersonator and you won't see it coming. ):h :D

Burner 05-01-2005, 09:35 PM Looks to me like anyone out of warranty would want one of these brackets, even stock. I think that a simple warbling yoke can crack the housing and if you're pulling the GN, TH or camper...it could be a must.

dmaxlover 06-02-2005, 06:19 PM since this brace is on top, can it be installed with the tranny and t/c in the truck?

dmaxalliTech 06-03-2005, 01:40 PM You can get them from Mike L or my self and of course direct from Suncoast. I just ordered a big handfull of them today.
Mike L. 06-03-2005, 02:20 PM I think all hard driving 4X4s should have this brace. Mine does.
