: Predator vs Quad
Ttexas26 04-29-2005, 01:36 PM I just need a little help here. Ive read post after post for the last 3 days, and i am still undecided which tuner to buy. I have narrowed it down to these two after eliminating the power pup, because of the extra 299.00 for the extreme upgrade. What are the pro's and con's for each? They seem to be pretty equal in my eyes, but ive never ran either one of them. By the way i have the LLY motor. thaks
McRat 04-29-2005, 01:48 PM How much power do you want?
The PPE is king of the hill right now on power.
The Predator is the best "low price" tuner, IMO.
Ttexas26 04-29-2005, 01:55 PM I dont plan on upgrading my tranns, so 100 hp should do it. Is the quad worth the extra money?
McRat 04-29-2005, 02:03 PM The Predator has more functions, and nearly the same power as the Quad. The Quad has about a 10HP advantage.
A 100 tune will eventually limp your trans.
Ttexas26 04-29-2005, 02:21 PM What fuctions does the predator have that the quad dont? And please explain what it means to limp the trans. Has anyone actualy had to replace their stock trans because of abuse with the higher settings of these tuners?
carterkraft 04-29-2005, 02:29 PM Quad has more available tunes. The trans usually does not completely break, but it will go into limp mode if you run it too hard. I have alaso heard that the Quad tunes are quieter.
The predator has real time sensor monitoring, but the Quad has tranny reset functions. Both reset DTC's.
McRat 04-29-2005, 02:30 PM The Predator can give you real-time data on your engine like balance rates and fuel pressure.
Limping the stock Allison when running big tunes is a very common event. The clutches are made to hold the stock power level and give a smooth ride. When you increase power 50%, just like nearly all automatics, it will start to slip.
Ttexas26 04-29-2005, 02:37 PM what is the advantage of the real-time data. What do you use it for?
What are the egs's running wth these tuners?

The Stealth give higher rpm! enough said ;)
The Quad is much better, it can be used on your next truck, or be sold and loaded onto other trucks. The Predator has to be sent back and they can set it so you can use the power on a different truck, but it cost you.
The Quad can do everything the Predator can do, and more. Really, it`s a wash! But the Quad is much quicker to load and unload, plus the higher rpm. At least on the LB7 :ro)

The LLY Predator does not have to be sent back to reset it if you want to install it on another truck.
Ttexas26 04-29-2005, 06:13 PM Well ive made up my mind. Im going with the quad tuner. What egt's are you guys seeing? What hp tune would i be safe running untill i buy some guages?

IAt the end of my post I stated that I was talking about the LB7. Because I wasn't aware of what the LLY version had, or didn't have.
I have both the Quad Stealth, and the Diablo Predator for the LB7, and the Stealth is much better, it is faster to install, and remove, it never freezes during install, it works better for tire size, it has higher RPM, more power and torque, and it runs about 400* lower on a 1/4 mile run. (1250*-1350* compared to 1600*-1800*)
